This scene in this movie is one of the all time greats. When Kay seethes "This Sicilian thing..." At Michael Corleone....good god. You knew why she got that abortion.

What an absolute treasure Diane Keaton was. Her wit never tired, nor did her style.

RIP, Diane Keaton. We loved you.

*...so I am a fan of Aabria too.

Anyways TL;DR - some of you Critical Role fans at worst are racist and not willing to recognize it and at best willfully ignorant of your own unconscious biases. In either case, it's not very welcoming to people of color new to your community.
blacaucasian.bsky.social
...except Mathew Mercer maybe, and those instances have only seemed to be the people proving they aren't racist because they can criticize the white guy too.
blacaucasian.bsky.social
...criticism about her or around how criticising her isn't racist. It shows how little people are aware this of how they show their unconscious biases regularly. I can't think of another person who's gotten criticism so far in the threads I've seen...

And if something gets shared with me about CR in Reddit (if we're being real reddit is where the most consistent conversations happen on a lot of this stuff, as toxic as it always seems to trend) overwhelmingly it's been threads that have been taken over by...

And I'm not trying to say everyone in that community is racist. But a lot of the criticism looks and feels racist, especially to me, as a person of color. Intent never equals impact.
blacaucasian.bsky.social
But all of that has seemed to pale to the toxicity I've seen towards Aabria in the last two weeks. It's gross and makes me not want to engage at all in that community.

Full disclosure: I come to Critical Role from being a huge fan of Dimension 20 so I am a fan. And I saw a lot of the flip out over Matthew Mercer not DMing this campaign.
blacaucasian.bsky.social
I'm new to watching Critical Role week to week. It's only two weeks but I'm really enjoying the campaign so far. That said, the most and major criticism I've seen come up is towards Aabria Iyengar & I wonder if any of the "critters" realize how racist this feels to a new person coming into the space

Incidentally, Ramaswamy is at a Turning Point USA event here.

Why say you don't mean to be horribly offensive when you absolutely mean to be horribly offensive?

What the fuck are we even doing?

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

Two people are responsible for me taking a shot on myself 12 years ago, quitting my job, going to grad school to get my master's and ultimately ending up in my dream job. One is Bobcat Goldthwait. The other is Marc Maron.

Monday is the last WTF. I don't even know what I'm going to do with myself. Thank you, Marc Maron. Thank you for everything. 16 years is the longest relationship I've ever had with anyone too.

My German grandmother, a war refugee, emigrated to Chicago. She learned how to speak English watching WGN.

When I visited we’d watch WGN every night. Never thought I’d see one of its producers brutalized & arrested by masked US govt thugs.

My mom & grandparents fled Germany bc of this same shit.

I like Ridley Scott. I think he's a directing goat. But in one breath to say Hollywood is "swimming in mediocrity" and then the next day "we need to embrace AI because it will do animator's jobs faster....just...yikes.
