I once saw a dog tied to a pipe in the stairwell of a university bldg, housing R&D labs and an outpatient clinic. The dog owner, an older lady, was uncooperative. Leaving the dog outside (as hospital hygiene rules mandate)? Not possible, and besides, I am a patient who goes through a hard time.

We - ie my wife - regularly cook a pumpkin quiche. It contains lots of eggs and gorgonzola. The cheesy, creamy saltiness goes great with the fruitiness of the pumpkin.

While pipetting away in a Boston lab, the local NPR station WBUR constantly mentioned their sponsor, 'the Autobahn Society'. It took me a while to find out that the announcers butchered the French name 'Audubon' to the greatest extent possible.

I had a few doctors I wanted to go medieval on. No test results, no one looking at results... You don't want to know what happens to patients who can't speak up and who have no one to do it for them. I shudder.

Sounds to me like you're gonna get a voucher for a local computer shop for Christmas.

McAfee sold my 83-yo dad virus protection until 05/2033. They're very bad with e-mails and their hotline staff - Bulgarians working remote - have sometimes poor connections. On 3rd try, a friendly guy helped me.

I second that. I assembled a new desktop a few years ago that's still perfectly fine for my office needs. The problem? The Ryzen processor I bought was not deemed acceptable by Microsoft a few years later for the new Windows. No support or new computer is the decision I face.

The fridge from the 40s might have still done its job, whether its energy use was comparable to newer models is another question.

You got a point regarding classic design. Smeg successfully produces fridges combining classic looks and bright colours. Why should a fridge look boring?

During the 90s, I saw the Dolphins play at Olympiastadion, but I don't recall their opponent. I was also a regular at Radrennbahn Schöneberg where the Adler used to play.

If the NFL is smart, they'll support amateur American football in GER to some extent. They need to grow a sound fanbase.

Thanks for that morsel of history. It's fascinating how long Haus Habsburg continues to have an impact on everyday life.

Here in Freiburg, Catholicism still plays an important role. Why? Because Haus Habsburg said so when this area was still Vorderösterreich.

Who needs a pristine beach, blue water, and a warm breeze when you can have dinner at a tiny restaurant on a poorly lit side street in a big Japanese city?

If 2026 provides more economic stability than 2025, I'll spend my money on a trip to Japan.

Here's hoping you can at least grab a Cailler bar or two at a local store before heading back. Their 'Chocmel' flavour (milk chocolate with almonds and honey) is a nice guilty pleasure. Villars is also a great brand. Both are from neighbouring Kanton Freiburg. Cheese is also excellent.
