There are those (apparently including some at The Post) who believe we don't need a Sports Page because there are so many guys like Sam out there ... which is why it's important to read what Sam has to say here about it. And why it's important to continue to subscribe to actual edited journalism.

The Washington Post is not sending reporters to Spring Training or the Olympics. Now there are rumors they plan to get rid of the entire sports department.

Time to make noise. Write to The Post. Cancel in protest.

Gee... Maybe The Post should send these guys to spring training!
I know what you're thinking: man, I wish @spencernusbaum.bsky.social and Andrew had a story detailing what they've heard from talent evaluators across baseball about the prospects acquired in the MacKenzie Gore trade.

Lucky for you, we came through:
They were traded for MacKenzie Gore. Here’s what MLB evaluators see.
The Post talked to several talent evaluators employed by teams across MLB, asking them about the return for MacKenzie Gore. Here’s what we learned.

It felt inevitable.

No matter how Nats fans felt about the current talent, here's the cold truth:

The ONLY way Toboni and Kilambi lose their jobs in the next few years is if they bet on the current talent and convince owners to spend big now to surround them with more talent.
Nationals have traded MacKenzie Gore to the Rangers, source confirms. Five prospects, including SS Gavin Fien (2025 1st round pick) coming to Nats in deal for lefty, who has two years of club control left. (@jonheyman.bsky.social was first to report)

I love the Hoosiers story, and they are a fun team to watch.

But I also smirk at all of the commentators and columnists today saying this team is a juggernaut. This team has zero flaws.

One month ago the same commentators said the exact same thing about Ohio State.

Sports is made for hyperbole.

The ICE officer with visible Nazi tattoos should be an entire news cycle. There should be experts on CNN, splashy infographics on every site. Everyone should be talking about it until he's fired. Instead it floats through my timeline, and a lot of you are probably like, "Wait, what?"

Blows my mind that some of the same journalists who see Trump as a want-to-be dictator at home are earnestly discussing the "challenges" for this same man to "bring democracy" to a country it just illegal invaded. Please grow up.

1/4 RANT: It frustrates me to see all this "Jack Smith's testimony is damning" stuff, because Jack Smith was gagged and forbidden to discuss anything that wasn't in the indictments themselves -- the indictments that were publicly issued 2 1/2 YEARS AGO, and that apparently nobody read.

Nobody should carry expectations of any major change OR long-term answer for at least a couple of years. A) There is no certainty of MLB in '27, and B) as Chelsea has covered well, Manfred is hell-bent on trying to consolidate media rights after '28 (in which case franchise values will soar).
Just to add what I can to the MASN discourse, Nats can always choose to have MLB handle production and distribution of games, as league does for San Diego/AZ/etc. My understanding is that in that case Nats receive whatever revenue they get from any cable deals and streaming subs

This is absolutely stupid.
The Sugar Bowl is over.
This is replay officials gone amok and ignoring the spirit of sport.
How dumb.
Head officials should be given least to declare a game over in this situation.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how lucky Nats fans are to have @markzuckerman.bsky.social, who's covered the team since its inception, deciding to give us his extra time and energy throughout 2025 to research and create 365 posts for a year-long A-to-Z review of Nationals history.

Thanks Mark!

The new National Security Strategy is a propaganda document, designed to be widely read. It is also a performative suicide. Hard to think of another great power ever abdicating its influence so quickly and so publicly. It will be worth following the reactions around the world, not just in Europe.
Trump's national security strategy is out and some of the Europe sections are shocking. "...the growing influence of patriotic European parties indeed
gives cause for great optimism."
