It came to our attention that cover art by a certain cover artist who had a few entries into our contest now uses AI art as part of their process. These have been replaced, and we've double checked the artists of our picks where possible!

We celebrate artists who don't use AI!
SPFBO XI is starting soon, and as is tradition (at least we did it last year) we're hosting our own Unofficial Cover Contest! Come look at the pretty book covers from this year's SPFBO and see which books were our favourites:

From time to time, I come across books I read in one sitting. Normally, those are novella length, but it's happened with longer books as well.

The last one was probably Blackburn Station, by @karenlucia.bsky.social about a year ago.

How about you?

Ahoy folks, it's SFINCS O'clock, and this is Nils with a new review.

These are my thoughts on Sunbathers, by @lindzmcleod.bsky.social

This is a bleak but worthwhile read, and while it hit me hard, I'm glad I read it.

Given the time of year, we'd like to re-share this wonderful article by @zzclaybourne.bsky.social about how reading is a way to connect with the world.

We hope you're all able to take the time you need to read. <3

I've eaten too much, I've socialised too much, and now that things have calmed down, I finished up a book review I started earlier this week.

Here are my thoughts on why Lady of Fire by @thewanderinginn.bsky.social is the best in the series. /nils

The SFINCS goes on! Here's our review of semi-finalist A Second Life Worth Living, by @karenlucia.bsky.social

A tale that's not at all the story the name implies it might be. You should read it.

The Final Voyage of Avery Mothmere, by Helen Whistberry comes to mind as fitting at least some of these requirements.
What are your favourite NOVELLAS from 2025?

I'm primarily looking for:
- weird/experimental/literary SFF
- SFF w queer characters/elements/communities
- historical sapphic romance
- works that explore disabled experiences/communities

Bonus if on Kobo, double for Kobo+, but open to other platforms.

Thursday is easing into the afternoon, and we're here to ease another semi-finalist onto our list.

This one's a different take on changing the world, perhaps, kind of? Read it and find out.
