Great thread in response. The OpEd is abhorrent and stupid. ‘Here’s why my idea to gut universities of research funding and top-notch global talent while making sure that flat-earthers can scream during classes will RETVRN schools to the 1950s’ just blindingly wrong

Thank you @nytopinion.nytimes.com for publishing this rot. Marc Rowan has run hundreds of companies into the dust to extract profits from their failure and bankruptcies. Now he wants to do the same to American higher education. Do not believe a word this man says. 1/ www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/o...

holy shit that’s embarrassing. i mean even for him. it’d be more dignified to put on a diaper and roll around saying ‘baby made a boom boom’ than whatever this cringe coy copying is

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

I mean, we all allowed the country to turn into a panopticon and use unlimited black sites and torture without any consequences- I think that really was an intentional table-setting for eventual domestic policies against the left

this is a lazy old man leading lazy people. this is why they love the internet and AI. no need to learn anything. you are a quick google away from winning this argument, and the next. no need to learn how to draw just use grok. "there's a crisis in physics" -- i heard it on youtube. boneheaded

No one has a single shred of dignity anymore. Can you imagine writing this? Taping this up?
It’s all top-down: deeply unserious people with no dignity or ability to feel shame, free of any accountability, tearing the foundation out of the country. Let’s see how it works out!

NOTICE OF STORE CLOSURE
To Our Valued Customers,
This Claire's location has been permanently closed. The decision reflects both external pressures & internal restructuring. In recent months, repeated attacks of ridicule by radical left agitators have gone beyond mere criticism, escalating into a deliberate effort to destabilize our company - conduct we recognize as Domestic Economic Terrorism.
At the same time, our transition under new private equity ownership required difficult financial choices. Protecting the stability of shareholders was prioritized, & this store - along with its local workforce - was deemed expendable in service of that obligation.
Despite these challenges, Claire's remains committed to our identity as a traditional American company rooted in values of family & community.
We will not be silenced by those who attempt to undermine that mission, & we continue to move forward with confidence in our future.
Here at Claire's, we look forward to working with the current administration to reinvigorate our brand presence across the United States, ensuring that we remain a part of American life for generations to come.
We invite you to continue supporting Claire's by shopping online at www.claires.com
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

And among other reasons, a deal is never a deal with these people. Look at how he has treated trade partners. There will always be new asks. The time to say no is now, and in solidarity, before you rewire your institution to something unrecognizable such that saying yes to new demands is a given.

Some schools will be starved of resources. Other schools will be offered bribes. The end goal is the same. To make the universities an extension of the Trump administration. Shame on any of these institutions willing to take the bribes.

It's simply ending the partnership between government and academia that drove the most successful era of science anywhere ever. There's no eternal rule that required this system, it was a just a specific, creative innovation that worked. It seems wr will learn its value the hard way now.
