Some friends of mine met Walter Koenig at the North Hollywood Diner. I saw Ned Beatty at the Tallyrand once but didn't talk to him. He just ate pancakes.

I think we're just getting to the Hister part.

I was at San Diego Comic-Con a while back. I covered the WWE Hasbro events and interviewed the Miz. Later the nerdy media types I was hanging out with were shocked that working for WWE was not my dream job. "Working for Vince McMahon is like working for Whitey Bulger," I explained.

It's crazy how vibes-based policing is. You just have to look like you're keeping us safe without actually keeping us safe.

There's a cool 50s Harryhausen sci-fi double feature in there somewhere.

I just want the police to deal with management consultants as much as every other public agency. Like they might discover that having massive armored troop transports doesn't really help with their clearance rates and the funds could be better spent elsewhere.

He's making it really hard to watch the opening segments on the Daily Show while usually skipping the guest interviews like I had been doing. The guest interviews have spilled into everything he does now.

When I was writing Murders That Made Us, I wanted to devote a chapter to some storied detective, but digging around, I almost always found stories about people they arrested and helped put away being released on appeal because the investigator withheld or falsified evidence.

It is Wednesday, February 11. The Super Bowl was three days ago. The sun will die in approximately five billion years. Death comes inexorably for us all. And large portions of MAGA and the Trump administration are still talking about Bad Bunny's halftime show: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
MAGA absolutely cannot let Bad Bunny go
Denying his Super Bowl success is a way to try to assert Trump's cultural control.

Knowing freelancer rates as well as I do and how much work it takes to place a story, I don't understand how this scam is profitable enough for anyone even with AI. It ends up being a terrible sabotaging of the few news outlets we have left.

Damn

"Someone had fabricated an identity and put our call for pitches into a large language model like ChatGPT, just to make a fake story that we’d feasibly pay for. When I started asking too many questions, that someone evaporated."
Aided by genAI models like ChatGPT, “writers” hoping to get paid for fake stories have become an even bigger problem for publications big and small. One such writer almost pulled one over on COYOTE — until @soleilho.com, who is a nerd, spotted a key idiosyncrasy.

Think of all the knowledge that was once preserved so freely on therifleman.net. What's even the point of the internet anymore?

Okay, I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that one.

I watched this in the context of one professed Christian grilling another but it gets thorny in a hurry if one of them isn't a Christian.
