It depends who they stand though - it needs to be someone strong with cross-appeal, not just a candidate who only appeals to people who already vote Green.

Feeling a bit demoralised about the by-election when I hear who's likely to stand for each party. I thought we were going to get some strong heavy-hitters all round but that seems less likely now. What a mess. That's our lives that people are playing with.

Hale is a very different beast to Gorton and Denton though. Even Gorton and Denton don't really compare.

far-right and other wackos will all be swinging their cocks around. It will be tight but I think Labour or Green will win. If Greens win Burnham is out of a job though. More worrying is the Mayoral election - my fear is that Reform could win that, then we're really up shit creek. Argh! 😬

Gorton and Denton is my constituency. I've no problem with Burnham standing but sorry to lose him as Mayor. He's the strongest Labour candidate by a mile. It's still a risk though, especially if Greens stand an equally strong candidate. The by-election will be a circus. Reform, Galloway and various

Personally, I don't think there's time for Burnham to pull it out of the bag for this by-election. It would create chaos. But then three and a half months is a long time in politics. I wouldn't be averse to him being our MP though.
