GenX butch transbian working in the shaft alley of a pocket seiner listening to Team Dresch seeks same- or any human on this earth who knows what all those words mean.
Reading _Light From Uncommon Stars_ and I have never found anything as distressing as the Endplague, the book's answer to the Fermi Paradox: civilizations eventually confront despair and their own mortality with atavistic self-murder.
culturally a lot closer than even mainland Asian cultures two thousand years ago. World religions are world religions.
I never felt okay with the appropriation argument for Buddhism. Like it crossed from Nepal to Indonesia in a few hundred years- if you go with the common theory, US Buddhism grew out of books and teachers from Japan in the early mid-20th century, at a time when the US and Japan were
Something I heard a Lebanese refugee say in an interview once: if they say it'll only last a week find an apartment. If they say it'll be done in a month find a job. If they say it'll all be over in a year learn the language; you're never going home.
I just mean, I always said I'd only ever move towards something and not away, but the thing is sometimes I don't get a choice.
I cannot express how much I want to stay. In this country, in my little off-the-road town where the postmaster brings my accidentally-unclaimed packages to my housemate on his rescue squad shift and people call me for their bake sale fundraisers. Where I know the berry and mushroom spots.

But...
Funny thought- both the current democratic party and capitalism have the same response to everything: "yeah, but what if you didn't have a choice?"
Hey! Don't do my man Victor Hugo dirty like that!
I first knew about the historical figure in the context of the whiskey rebellion, essentially a real estate scam to dispossess poor farmers in what was then the West.

Can I please hate him without "you just don't think a Black man can play a founding father"?
Still waiting on a paycheck but will order
This does nothing to assuage my fear that the democrats' first priority is always the next election, specifically ensuring all public actions leading up to an election are as nondisruptive as possible. Winning, in this worldview, is natural and losing is the unfortunate outcome of someone fucking up
I was wondering if that was just some other dialect. I only know fusha and also i suck at it.
If your supervisor ever tells you that in order to remain in employee housing you have to Venmo a thousand bucks to his personal account, call HR.

I know calling HR is usually worthless or even suicidal but occasionally they do get it right.

How's everybody else's Halloween weekend?

Sorry but that's the profile picture of the Afanc on the social networks. IRL the afanc looks like this:
@wyrdlittleguy.bsky.social hey congrats on the Netherlands not necessarily going fash! I know I know forming a majority coalition blah blah it could have gone much worse!

(And Ireland! And if Canada can pass a budget tomorrow, Canada too!)
Is the argument that Israel is a colony of... Britain? Again? Wasn't there a war or something?

Also Israeli third-worldism is an interesting platform...
Goddammit living in a truck again...
Istg every other story out of Canada is someone promising to invoke the notwithstanding clause. Like fine Bill 21 had problems but I don't think CAQ intended to end federalism overall
I think someday there will be room to explore the difference between "hate" and sadism. I don't know if Trump voters are truly emotionally overwhelmed by the thought of trans people and immigrants, as much as they enjoy recreationally watching them squirm in agony.
I found this piece sad too, but mostly because it is part of a years-long effort by progressives to understand what "really" animates Trump voters.

We already know! It is racism, misogyny and misinformation. I know that sounds condescending or whatever but it's simply what all evidence suggests.
"when the Dems take power" is an unproven and unlikely outcome anyway. How exactly would that even happen?

Dunno how to break it to you but we're not going to vote our way to democracy. We're also not suing our way there. As absolutely vital as both of these things are, they're necessary but not sufficient. We need people to get to their bones that we are in extraordinary times & break out of habits.
You see this in Alaska- the city or Borough subsidizes the construction of low cost units and they're immediately bought up by existing homeowners as short term rentals
