Seeing as there are lots of introductions on here: my PhD research is looking at the material culture of Roman children, focussing on the site of Dura-Europos. Here are a couple of examples from the corpus of articulated bone dolls. I’m also looking at infant feeding bottles & terracotta toys.

In Monza for the first time seeing the famous lead ampulla acquired by pilgrims ca. 600. The collection was possibly given by Gregory the Great to Queen Theodelinda around that same time. I photographed all 16 and labeled them according to Grabar's numbering:

Out of curiosity, I searched tiktok for cat history videos and immediately found this thing about medieval cats by a "history" account with over half a million followers and a book coming out. This was her first example and... that's not a medieval cat. That was painted by Fernando Botero in 1994. 🧵
