I cannot imagine the level of mockery this would have led to back when I was in.

The only guy who would very loosely fit is Roger Sweet, and he's 92 and hasn't gone to conventions in years. Also he always had a sense of humor about people taking his crappy cartoons seriously.

My junior senator misses like half the votes and has a podcast. It's a bleak era for representative democracy.

Haha the international market must learn what anime fans have known for decades. There are things that look cool in animation that no amount of CGI can make work in live action.

The creators of ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ have dismissed the idea of making a live-action adaptation:

“It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.”

A bunch of memorized phone numbers from long disconnected 1990s land lines have been my go to PIN numbers for decades now.
rincewind.run
the funniest thing about this is that those of us who grew up in the divide all have a bunch of pre-cell phone numbers memorized and almost none afterwards

I know the home phone numbers of two of my childhood best friends from thirty years ago and none of the cell numbers of my college friends

Bandit was a pain in the ass his entire life. Sometimes I hated the little bastard I'd inherited. But ultimately I loved him very much.

I've now been a week with no dogs in the house. I haven't enjoyed it much. Tomorrow I'm going to the country animal shelter to find a dog in need of a home.

Things gradually got worse, but he was always able to shake anything off. He coughed to clear the fluids from his lungs. When he needed to puke, he puked. And then resumed chasing birds.

And of course he peed wherever he felt like, the little asshole.
brashieel.bsky.social
In February 2024 his last sibling passed. He was diagnosed with heart failure at about the same time, and started taking medications.

I thought about getting another dog at that time, but Bandit clearly enjoyed being an only dog. So I decided to wait.

And he lasted an amazingly long time.
brashieel.bsky.social
Yeah, it was tough. His heart was failing, his lungs were starting to fill with fluid faster than medication could resolve, and he'd suffered a paralysis episode after running. But also he was always such a tough little bastard. He'd just shake it all off.
brashieel.bsky.social
In 2020 he dug out of the back yard, crawled under the gate, and ran off down the street. He was promptly hit by a speeding car. It broke his jaw, caved in part of his skull, and deeply lacerated his front legs. True to his frustrating yet tough nature, he recovered fine after surgery.
brashieel.bsky.social
He never quite accepted he wasn't allowed to pee in the house. He knew I didn't want him to, but he also mostly didn't care. If he needed to pee when I was away he was going to pee. Pee pads mitigated this but a chunk of molding in my kitchen is going to need to be replaced soon.
brashieel.bsky.social
He was part of a litter of five puppies, three of which would ultimately wind up with me due to deaths. He outlived the last of his siblings by 20 months. A tough little bastard of a dog until the very end.

He was a difficult dog almost his whole life. Aggressive to other dogs and strangers.
brashieel.bsky.social
He was 13 and a half, not bad at all for a Boston terrier mix. He had been with me for most of that time, though for for the first few years he had been my parents' dog until they couldn't take care of him anymore. My father passed in late 2017, my mother in early 2019, but Bandit just kept going.
brashieel.bsky.social
I had to put Bandit to sleep last Monday. It was a hard choice, though ultimately all of the alternatives were worse. His senses were still relatively good, he was still lucid, and his appetite was still strong. Most of the time his mobility was still fine, and he was still interested in the world.

Doing alright. This place has a little too much tumblr energy but it’s okay.

Yeah, in this as in everything the Trump admin is bad. But MAGA is temporary, and medical breakthroughs are forever.

Some encouraging news for once. Macular degeneration is awful, and this would be a huge improvement in treatment options.

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have developed a new mRNA vaccine that has been shown to suppress abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina, offering hope to MILLIONS of patients with age-related vision loss. The vaccine triggered strong antibody responses that REDUCED retinal damage by UP TO 85%.

You're going to need to back that statement up with some facts.

Also the vast majority of infantry aren't Rangers/Airborne/Raider/Recon/any possible flavor of SF. They're just line infantry, doing normal infantry things.

I get the nostalgia but so much of this is just wrong. Wal-mart didn't have live lobsters. They didn't do the sticker thing anymore in 2002. They were famously charmless big box stores where you could never find an employee and there were weird messes on the floor that never went away.

This is doing numbers on social media right now and it's so depressing how people truly yearn for this shit and want to preserve that feeling indefinitely like a mausoleum of false memories.

FBI chief Kash Patel is being nuts by a conservative podcaster who's constantly trashing him, allegedly inspiring FBI firings with his rude social media posts about Patel’s “bumbling.”
