One good rule for a veteran writer: Break your own rules ruthlessly. I don't do profiles and rarely write about theater, so when T asked me to do a deep dive into the life & work of David Henry Hwang, naturally I said yes! Huge thanks to DHH for his time and openness. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/t...

What about making a photo of someone appearing to be gravely ill — as with Dolly Parton — and convincing countless people it is true?

Something like that is false, the creator knows it’s false, and it’s also harmful—and persuasive.

Always an honor to hit the NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestseller lists. A huge thank you to all of you readers, the Widow’s Point Street Team, and an amazing team at Simon & Schuster and Nelson Literary Agency.

Vanity Fair asked me to talk about visual effects, and it was my great honor to show off some of ILM’s terrific work over the years.

The producers of "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" even made pin-up photos of Aki and the male co-star, "Gray Edwards."

Aki ranked #87 on the Maxim 100 list of babes. (Jessica Alba was #1.) Gray ... I don't know where this ran. I guess that's the point.

About 24 years ago, I wrote this story:

"Dawn of Digital: Computers Generate a First—Lifelike Actors For Feature Films."

Many of the things said about Tilly Norwood were said here: She's getting an agent, she will star in all sorts of projects, and she can do anything a filmmaker wants. 🤔

I’m saying this as someone who has worked for 30 years as a journalist: a degree in sound engineering, show structure and distribution techniques is actually useful.

The cost of college is a problem, but these skills are valuable. Studying up myself…

I'm saying this as someone with an undergrad degree in Poetry: you should feel embarrassed if you tell someone you have a degree in Podcasting.

Syracuse University, which costs $100,000 per year, has opened a school to give degrees in podcasting and social media influencing 🫥

Opening lines don’t get better than this:

“Grandma! I remember her birth.”

Ray Bradbury, forever. But especially in October. 🍁

That’s right up there with “Hold me closer Tony Danza” and “‘Scuse me while I kiss this guy.”

Not gonna lie, this makes me unexpectedly emotional. After 15+ years as a working NYC playwright, with dozens of productions & scheduling near misses & pleading press agents, not to mention 5 published books, this is the *first* time anything I've written has gotten any coverage in the NYTimes.

Im a big fan of PTA and One Battle After Another. I tried to do the best deep dive on all the easter eggs, references, and fun production nuggets i could find and remember from my first watch.

another busy day at the peanut bar #birds
A Blue Jay landing on a blue and white mat with a red rock to the left. The wings are raised. A second Jay is in flight to the right with a peanut in it's beak. There are out of focus green and yellow leaves in the background

This was fun. @robkeyes.bsky.social asked basically two questions:

What action film is the greatest of all time?

and

Can you pick something that will make people fight?

Here's what I came up with as part of @screenrant.bsky.social's new debate series... 🗡️
