i agree here. it would demand a level of workforce coordination that i don't think this gaggle of chowderheads can muster. but i hope that alone is enough to prevent some kind of larger movement. i don't underestimate their depravity.

they will not throw away the system. they will put their thumbs on the scale to unfairly tilt it in their direction, but claim legitimacy, whether it's delays or derailments. they always do.

pure projection

i never said the disruptors would be part of the federal government. there was a whole phalanx of conspirators who tried to rig the 2020 election, and many of them didn't serve in federal government either. i only mentioned mike johnson to exemplify their intent, not to prescribe how it will happen.
January 15, 2026 at 6:59 PM
and again, i WISH i didn't think this of people in my country. i wish i could depend on everyone in every party agreeing that when an election is held and fair, that the results are legitimate and we can get to the governing part to improve people's lives. but one party has consistently fought this.

they have no qualms about messing with codified practices if it suits them. they are this decrepit, and care only about maintaining power. everything from the constant pushes for voter ID laws to mcconnell refusing to advise on garland for SCOTUS, it's a fact pattern. it's their what, not their how.
January 15, 2026 at 6:54 PM
i believe you, and i'm not saying that mike johnson would specifically cause a delay. i'm saying republicans change and bend the rules to maintain power all the time. if not him, then it would be someone else with a functional position in the mechanics of running elections and seating new members.

get it through your blonde, the US does not want to acquire greenland

we all take what he says seriously whether we want to or not because he's the fucking president whether we like it or not
January 15, 2026 at 6:48 PM
we all watched mike johnson refuse to swear in rep. grijalva for, what was it, 2 months? meanwhile he swore in 2 GOP reps within 24 hours of their elections?

how does this seem so impossible or implausible?

i think trump has given zero thought to how he would mechanically interrupt or disrupt or derail elections. i think he was just babbling. which he does all the time since his brain is pureed carrots and his mouth doesn't close.

but there are people listening who are willing to do the thought work.
January 15, 2026 at 6:39 PM
this president doesn't care where presidents are historically or mechanically uninvolved, because he involves himself everywhere, and then waits for our broken system to correct him. and since it's broken, it corrects him slowly, inconsistently, toothlessly, or sometimes not at all.
January 15, 2026 at 6:37 PM
trump has passed so very many executive orders, the court rulings on them have been egregiously slow, and he either ignores or appeals those rulings when they are delivered. according to the constitution, the president doesn't levy taxes, but he EOed the tariffs and they haven't gone away.
Executive Orders

and for the record, dear god i WISH i didn't think like this, and i don't think anyone else who does wants to either. but we're here.
January 15, 2026 at 5:31 PM
for everything we've seen since 2016, isn't it fair to say nothing's truly off the table? how many times have we all seen the word "unprecedented" in headlines and chyrons for the last decade?
January 15, 2026 at 5:30 PM
he does, but it really doesn't matter what anyone here thinks an executive order is, it matters what state secs of state think. and it's not a foregone conclusion that a nonzero number of them will use one, if available, as a pretext to suppress voters or derail elections whole cloth.
January 15, 2026 at 5:29 PM
i think it's a complex arrangement built on mutually agreed-upon policies and norms between the state and federal levels.

but, i also think a speed bump is a speed bump, and if trump lays one out, some states will happily accelerate into it with vigor on the off-chance it does enough damage.
