IIRC someone eventually was like, hey, we have this giant pile of moose skulls we’ve been collecting for 50 years, can we use bull moose antler condition correlate with season of death and use it as a proxy in an estimate for predation?

One of the themes that‘s strong when the Isle Royale wolf researchers talk about their work over the decades is the challenge of conducting observations when there’s undergrowth & canopy cover. Makes it hard to answer fundamental questions like how many hunts succeed when half the year is thin data

Any Younger Dryas article in the popular press needs to be illustrated with an actual mountain avens (Dryas octopetala) instead of a comet.

This is little tundra flower is what the period is named for (they got to be really, really common during several cold periods after the last glacial maximum).
