@joannahs.bsky.social dearest Mr Pickles. We are told that your staff’s relative Daniel has, this morning, been tasked by one of our staff with the job of congratulating you for being a “good boy”. We trust he will deliver this with appropriate treats and cuddles.

@joannahs.bsky.social dear Mr Pickle, please let us know if you’d like our support in the event you start proceedings for being so negligently left out of this week’s “The Diary” column (which was otherwise excellent). We are sure you could make a good case for neglect…

Happy birthday to Mabel. Despite her occasional worries about the world, she would follow you to the ends of it. Which she proved again a couple of days ago.

I wrote a paper called 'Rules for Regulators' in an edited collection, John-Stewart Gordon ed. Smart Technologies and Human Rights (Brill 2021) and others have encouraged me to share it a bit more widely. Link here.

This Snow White remake trailer ran before Moana 2 last week. I assumed it was just one that I had erased from my brain — not that it hadn't been released online yet. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV46...

I have said it before and will say it again: The BBC's Natural History Unit is worth the licence fee alone. Over the last 50 years, I have learnt more about the natural world from the BBC than anywhere else. It is a magnificent thing which we should cherish.

Interviewing @ChefTomKerridge on #PoliticsHub tonight who gave me the best ever cooking tip:

Cook roast potatoes on the hob THEN LEAVE THEM TO COOL before roasting them using hot oil in the oven

I’m a terrible cook but this really works you’re welcome

Etymology of the day: to be ‘blowing a hoolie’ (or ‘hooley’) was probably inspired by the Orkney word ‘hoolan’, a howling gale, with a touch of the ‘hooley’ that is a very noisy party thrown in.

It is lucky that my husband has a birthday between now and Christmas because there are SO MANY amazing #cookbook recommendations below this post! 👇

Thank you 🙏
Does anyone have any #cookbook recommendations for Christmas this year? 🙏

(Husband is a great cook - which is excellent, as I’m a great eater - and he has a fairly huge collection of #cookbooks, but hasn’t had a chance to enjoy much new this year - so new-ish titles ideally please!)

Trials are being adjourned from 2024 to 2026 at one London court with capacity issues.

Imagine getting the call to be told your trial (on either side of the courtroom) was being delayed.

It won’t start on time.

Not by 2 hours. Or days. Not by 2 weeks. Or months.

But 2 years.

Fantastic thread - I would say it brings back memories but actually, I remember oddly little of my visit except the overall shabbiness - it was quietly falling apart by November.
In 1999, a great white dome rose in the heart of London, at the place where time begins.

What did it hold?

An artificial wonderland of dreams for a new millennium. A monumental public expenditure. A national boondoggle. "One amazing day".

The Millennium Dome - a design thread.

Hello new followers and thank you! I mainly post about lawyers, often when they might about to get into hot water. There are many fine lawyers on here, and I am also interested in the positive stuff! I am especially interested in the Post Office debacle.
