Please note re: today's ceasefire ⤵️

The genocide is not over. We are dealing with overseers and executioners of an extermination campaign of children.

If this ceasefire holds, it must mark the beginning of a new path — one where US policy shifts from fueling apartheid and genocide to supporting freedom and safety for all, starting with HR 3565, the Block the Bombs Act.

We must not let this genocide resume or anything like it happen again.

This poem is from a delicious dialogue between Persephone and Jesus in Pádraig Ó Tuama's Kitchen Hymns (@coppercanyonpress.bsky.social, 2024). The part it's in is called "In a Garden by a Gate."
I love this book!

For Such a Time as This

Your mother said your father was
a god, she said. Mine said that too,

and I see what your god does.
Abandons, tests, and traps you.

Asks for more. And more. Then more
than anyone is capable of doing.

That is not divinity.
That is a weak imagination.

I'm beginning to agree, he said,
but I don't believe he'd change.

I'm talking about you, she said.

One book sale in seventeen days. Yikes. Help us to avoid the worst of all possible fates - the crowdfunder - by buying our scrupulously edited, meticulously designed, handsomely produced and fastidiously packaged books here:

"her memory is a cloud she can't hold..."

Lots of feels with this poem for my mum. Sent with love for anyone with a parent or loved one with Alzheimer's/dementia. It's a journey.

(And thank you @poetsorg.bsky.social and Rick Barot for sharing this one. It means a lot.)

Mourning those murdered by Hamas isn't incompatible with mourning those murdered by the Israeli state.

Demanding that the hostages return isn't incompatible with naming & demanding an end to genocide.

Naming the power imbalance & impact thereof doesn't desecrate those murdered two years ago today.

Today marks two years since Hamas’ October 7 massacre and the start of Israel’s assault on Gaza. We asked Palestinians and Jews on our team how they felt about their home then — and how they feel now. To see the full post, click here shorturl.at/msoVq

They'd have to admit that their goal had been ultimate revenge and genocide all along and that they're not there (???!!!!) yet.

it’s been a minute since i’ve published anything, so i’m especially grateful that @matchbooklitmag.bsky.social gave this little musing on love + leavings a home.

Departures

handed you the promised coffee with an apology: no sugar, no milk, I’m sorry.

I don’t need those things, you said, and I fell in impossible love with you all over again.

I’d come from my room carrying everything I wanted to happen that didn’t. Now the lobby was too bright and smelled like grapefruits and your face was weary in a way that felt intimate.

You spoke quietly to me in the taxi, then held me twice at the terminal, which I took to mean you loved me too, despite.

On Friday I spoke with relatives of Americans on the Gaza aid flotilla who were being detained by Netanyahu’s government.

Ambassador Huckabee says his highest duty is to protect Americans abroad but has done virtually nothing to return them. He needs to do his job.

An October haiku from way back for #smallPoemSunday, published by UCity Review (also way back).
The weather is as clear today as when I wrote this.
October Sun

Glitter and sharpness
sever sky from crowns today.
No dulling the edge.
