I can highly recommend being a financial accountant - nobody ever asks any follow-up questions
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Probably books
This is a Bill Simmons game, but you’re stranded on a desert island. You can only have one actor’s filmography. You get it all, including cameos. But just the one performer.

I’m taking Cate Blanchett: Talented Mr. Ripley, LOTR, Life Aquatic, Black Bag, Tár, Ponyo, Hot Fuzz, Eyes Wide Shut, Thor

Seeing wealthy people's houses always reminds me that there's one simple trick that anyone can do to make their home look fancy - just raise your ceilings by 4-6 metres

THIS JUST IN: YOU HAVE TO PUT EFFORT IN TO UNDERSTAND A COMPLEX SUBJECT. MORE AT 9
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

Learning With AI Falls Short Compared to Old-Fashioned Web Search
In virtually all the ways that matter, getting summarized information from AI models was less educational than doing the work of search.

Sculptamold turns out to have a much different texture than I was expecting. Thought it was basically plaster but it’s like working with wet wool

This was just a joke but this morning someone else messaged me about a marketplace item at 4:32am, a bewildering decision
Guy from Marketplace said he’d be here in 25 minutes but it’s been 26 minutes 😡😡😡

It's my belief that weet-bix have lost much of their structural integrity in the time since I was a kid, and that the savings achieved by cutting corners in this manner have been funnelled into Sanitarium's secret weapons program

I’m up to the bit in my Third Reich book where the brownshirts forced out every mildly oppositional politician and public servant at every level of government by harassing them and beating them until they resigned (and killing them if they didn’t)
Per The Atlantic, An Indiana Republican isn’t running for re-election because “I’d rather my house not get firebombed” - because Trump is mad he opposed his seat-stealing redistricting plan there. www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

Went to the new-ish banh mi local for lunch and grilled the owner on when they're going to start serving pho (it's on the menu, but currently covered up). A few minutes later while eating my banh mi I heard someone else in line having the exact same conversation. The pho-likers are restless.
