🇨🇦 in 🇺🇸. academia has 4 parts: research, teaching, service & politics. i got the 1st 3 right. posts mine & might be info.
my passport says i am 183cm tall.
when you're burned, you've got nothing. no pets, no insta & you're not going anywhere.
ça que c'tait.
Pinned
i'm pinning this b/c i really don't care how many followers or invites i lose. this is time to ask, a nazi sits at a table & nobody leaves, so how many nazis are there? all of them.
as of today, there are no republican "friends." there are no "decent" republicans. and you can't be my friend if you if you believe otherwise.
even the new york times says the videos contradict, not "appear to contradict."

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

i have said before, incl in peer review, that you waste your time calling them hypocrites. a hypocrite knows there is an alternative. these people are solipsistic, narcissistic, & sociopathic; ie, far from unamerican, they are the distilled essence of american exceptionalism.
The people who spent years defending and even lionizing Kyle Rittenhouse and Ashli Babbitt now want us to believe that an unarmed mother in her car and a disarmed nurse were domestic terrorists who deserved to be murdered by law enforcement.

ouellette, 2021, pp77-79, recounting a conversation from 2014: would eichmann be hanged today? not in america, not today.

i am sorry i was right.

mostly, i am disgusted that the arrogance of american exceptionalism, even on the left, precludes the recognition of something obvious to any outsider.

article pitch for a leading journal: we can blame fortnite b/c i played mario karts.

if only some of my colleagues--looking at you dr. marxist poco scholar chair of the living wage ctte--felt this way & stopped insisting on new editions of the textbook that they use for, checks notes, 4 separate u/g sections, & pressure others into using
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

ftfy--assaulting & kidnapping american citizens
ICE and CBP officials like Todd Lyons here are hitting TV this afternoon to spread the message that yes, ICE is arresting US citizens

for my u.s. american friends & colleagues, passifiume is what we call incels in 🇨🇦
A deleted tweet by a Toronto Sun national politics reporter.

buttressing the fragility of american masculinity is one of the most important projects of the u.s. american nation state.
and it's a socialist project, as well.
The real masculinity crisis is that anyone would mistake ICE agents for masculine men

this was me yrs ago the oldest tweet still available. only now are people realizing what i said b4 that. ICE are are the freikorps &/or SD. my guess, you'll see governors & mayors in blue states replaced by gauleiters by spring. if they took a world leader that would be easy.
basin of water please.
January 10, 2026 at 4:39 PM
why did it take the rest of you 8 yrs (check my t/l on twitter) to realize i was right & ICE are no different than the SA in 1934? why do you think i stopped posting it? i got tired of waiting & tired of being disappointed by the rest of the left. i need a basin of water 🇺🇸

again, this is why i read the halder diaries. what makes these people tick? they could act, prolly know they should, but won't until....
so when is the tipping point?
Gen Paul Eaton: Trump and his defense secretary Pete Hegseth are mounting an aggressive push to politicize the top ranks of the US military–a push that smacks of Stalinism and could take years to repair, the former infantry chief who trained troops to invade Iraq warns.
Trump push to politicize US military ‘reminiscent of Stalin’, top general warns
Maj Gen Paul Eaton says US president’s effort to bend military to his will could have dire long-term consequences

i've been reading the halder diaries. plenty of insights there, too.
Just gonna throw this out there that no book is more prescient for the times we face. It’s not hyperbole to say that the similarities to right now are chilling. You won’t vote your way out of this with a spineless opposition party and this is going to end very badly for many, many people.

re-upping this. i knew it was over the day noem's thugs attacked a sitting senator.

🇨🇦 in 🇺🇸 view: yes, agreed, 100%. thing is, telling them that only encourages them b/c they are convinced, with the certainty of the unquestioning evangelical that they likely are, that our disagreement is more proof that they've got it right & it's god's will. it'll get worse before it gets better.

@[email protected] very kindly found a pair of matchbox lysanders, the 1/72 & the 1/32. both are in great condition for their age. she was able to find decals for the little one & the big one will have some nifty challenges, which is always fun.

moggy is nearly done top side, but i got a bit of time yesterday and the snowbird is ready for a careful soapy wash before the gloss goes on. even used xmas present fr @[email protected], a micro compressor set for the cottage, to do leading edges.

^another national discussion & last time it was a psych prof
Only a matter of time until a UC Berkeley law professor writes a memo justifying torture, a brave Vanity Fair writer gets tortured to say whether it hurts, and we have a national discussion about whether certain people should be tortured for our safety.

despite my dept's annual attempt to spoil things, a happy xmas will be had & will include tourtière.
December 22, 2025 at 11:37 PM
i am so proud of pascal & his work on this 917 gulf livery.
December 22, 2025 at 9:22 PM
working holiday b/c natch my dept turned my sked into a last minute dog's breakfast, so the planes are suffering rather than the vetting, my collabs, & my grad students. even so, the snowbird & moggy are coming along.
December 22, 2025 at 9:20 PM
here are the other 2, both hobbycraft 1/72. a canadair ct-114 tutor for rcaf snowbirds & an avro canada cf-105 arrow, just primed. the former is a typical hobbycraft kit & not great, so i added some detail in the cockpit. the latter is actually a great kit so far, very un-hobbycraft.
December 8, 2025 at 1:45 AM
it has been an exceptionall busy fall, but i've made progress on 3 kits, incl the 1/72 hasegawa typhoon done as moggy. it has a start on the upper decals on it.

What TV show feels like this?
November 15, 2025 at 5:22 PM
a couple of rainouts & some much needed mental health time & the 1/72 typhoon moggy & 1/72 ct114 tutor for snowbirds are coming along.
