"On behalf of Scotland, we are sorry."

Thinking of friends in the Traveller / Nawken community today. Long overdue, and such a deeply traumatic experience which has persisted for generations.

The Scottish Languages Bill has passed this evening @parliament.scot. The results of the vote at Stage 3 were:

✅ Yes - 112
❎ No - 0
There were no abstentions.

The Bill gives the #Gaelic and #Scots languages official status in Scotland and includes changes to Gaelic and Scots education.

An artistic highlight of 2024 was the revival of Fergusson’s Auld Reikie for the poet’s 250th anniversary at a packed Reid Concert Hall in November. A privilege to appear with Karine Polwart, Gary West @byrnesong.bsky.social & Sarah Hoy. Hoping to do it again in 2025
Thanks, I can see the tags now after updating 🙏
Congrats @handsupfortrad.bsky.social on another fabulous celebration of our trad scene. Folk were asking about my lapel last night: a hairst knot, traditional straw work made by Elaine Lindsay. Bothy loons wore something similar when seeking a fee. A wee nod to my pal, the late Joe Aitken. #NaTrads
It's all problematic - when the price of everything else has increased over the decades but we still think "Album = £12" - but I use Tidal and Bandcamp. Often I'll buy physical albums through Bandcamp as well as the digital version. Ultimately with Bandcamp, you need to buy after x number of plays.
Hay @en.blueark.app - my migration completed recently but my tweets don't seem to have arrived with archive date stamps. Can you advise?
Seeing mention of an archived date stamp function that @bsky.app has put in place but not seeing it on my feed yet. Watch this space.
New followers here will be seeing my previous posts from the other place all dated within the last week. @en.blueark.app seemed to be pulling them through ok in initial transfer but now that it's complete, the dates haven't come with them. An imperfect archive, alas, maybe it will update eventually.
Broadly that's similar to our Vaillant system in terms of spec, although it uses a different refrigerant. I'd need to go back to the quote to check but made sure to get everything itemised. It does take a fair bit of thinking about for sure, the work was fairly invasive, but pleased with result.
Depends, is there a dead knight nearby? 😅
You need a heat loss calculation to check the proper size of heat pump. We assumed a 5kW Vaillant (approx £3.5k) would be what we would get but the calculation showed we needed a 7kW which is £4-£4.5k. VAT isn't a factor, heat pump installs were zero rated for 5 years from Apr 2022.
Given my recent experience, I'd be amazed if you can get a heat pump installed properly in 3 days, but maybe that's specific to my house.
Not really. Around £6k of that is pump + tank which is a more advanced bit of kit than a standard tank. Just over a week's labour for 2-3 guys to install, inc upgrading pipework + around half of our radiators. In Scotland you get a 0% loan for the amount over the grant, costs us £75 a month.

Thanks for re-reading in 2024. Every few months now I get tagged in another language, as a new wave of honeycomb fever takes off somewhere else on the planet.

I don't think Brian has got round to a new pattern yet - he's probably too busy making funky ukuleles! www.fannerelectricukulele.com

PS. From the earliest days of the modern internet, (I was a university student in the mid 90s), I would use
@snopes.bsky.social as a go-to. Still do. They definitely helped calibrate my antennae over the years. They are your friend! 🐝
37/ What about Brian & the bees? They're planning their next moves.

"I do want to do another but each season comes around and I don't get to it. I'll do one this year. Still trying to decide what to do."

Let's see what the internet makes of that. 🧐

THE END.
36/ The thing to take away? On the internet, search behind what you see. Don't take things at face value. Don't let your "aww" gene get in the way of thinking, hmm, is this for real? Because there are people out there who seek to use such kindly human instincts in unkind ways.
