#art Miku-Superman switcheroo! Miku will be fine… Good luck, Clark!
Drawing of Hatsune Miku wearing a Superman-like costume. There’s a “Krypton Voice of Tomorrow” logo on the side (like “Crypton Future Media”). In the corner there’s Superman in a miku-like costume forced to perform on stage.

(ohhh I just realized why I was good at school-- that way of learning just REALLY WORKS for me. that was really lucky for me until I graduated college 🙃)

"for an artist, learning is a life-long pursuit, and that's beautiful" I grumble to myself through gritted teeth.

(also I'm starting a CDA composition class on Monday, which I think will also help! It feels wrong to call myself "self taught," but I guess I am. Taking formal classes helps me a lot-- it forces me to re-examine the habits I take for granted.)

I think this is why my layouts sometimes "look wrong" even when everything aligns with the horizon line/VPs. this is the first time in YEARS I regret not going to "proper" art school. if I had to suffer through one of those industrial design-ass perspective courses I wouldn't be in this mess

bad news: I think a deeper understanding of linear perspective (including cone of vision, precise geometry, etc.) will solve a lot of my storyboarding problems. this sucks

it's not the fault of any Vertigo creatives, and I doubt it was what the people directly editing Vertigo books wanted, but. here we are
cafesaturn.bsky.social
The new Vertigo titles are all really exciting but then I remember that Gretchen Felker-Martin was supposed to have one too and then I have to sit down and think for a while

the great @iamdavidbrothers.com and some guy who draws Batman come out swinging. they had me at Fist of the North Star, kept me with Hajime no Ippo … also some action noir bits (Michiko & Hatchin?) - a dizzying variety of Stuff, something new every couple pages. screentone! more like this, forever.
Good Devils Don’t Play Fair With Evil, cover by Nick Dragotta. A triptych of the band issue’s characters, masterful stuff. Good Devils Don’t Play Fair With Evil, by David Brothers & Nick Dragotta. From the Hara & Buronson pastiche. I love Fist of the North Star so much you guys, it’s one of my favorite things ever. A distaff version where the villain is a haughty blonde, I really could read that for hundreds of chapters. Good Devils Don’t Play Fair With Evil, by David Brothers & Nick Dragotta. From the boxing piece. My god I love Ippo. Seriously, changed my life, taught me the value of personal discipline through exercise, which I just never got before. Also, my god, so much Punching. I love boxing in theory but it’s too heartbreaking in reality, so paper works best. Good Devils Don’t Play Fair With Evil, by David Brothers & Nick Dragotta. The back of the book is a four-part noir, a morality play that could have fit in a whole book but is here distilled to its most necessary pieces. Extraordinary. “8 Million People But Just A Single Friend.” More of this! Please!

ex.: iirc Wolfman/Perez were the ones who decided to make Dick Grayson Nightwing-- If NTT never happened then Robin wouldn't have become a legacy, and the Bat-Family as we know it might never have existed. (Also, the people who grew up on NTT now make comics. we're never getting rid of Deathstroke)
cafesaturn.bsky.social
I've only read Judas Contract, and I remember it being pretty good. From a historical point of view it's essential reading. NTT was hugely popular when it was coming out and you can still see its influence now

Here's Batwoman fighting evil chimney sweeps. come ON, Grant. but to be fair, if I was writing for a British company, I'd definitely add some Americans in cowboy hats
Panels from Morrison's Batman and Robin. Batwoman fights a gang of chimney sweeps wearing masks.

I love it when Morrison (who is a Scottish person) adds a British character to a DC book. Suddenly it's all jokes about haggis and bad teeth
Panel from Morrison's Animal Man.
Buddy's wife: You hear me? Get down those stairs and OUT. Now!
Mirror Master: Awright! Awright! Keep your knickers on, hen! You're a right wee stoatir, eh? Two panels from a Morrison Flash story:
Linda: I think you should have a rest in your wheelchair.
Flash: Only if my bonnie lassie joins me for a wee cuddle...
Linda: Wally, you are definitely spending too much time around scottish people! Panels from Morrison's Batman and Robin
Batman: I knew there was a REASON my country had a revolution.
Pearly King: Heh, they TOLD me you was coming. As a matter of fact, I claim descent from KING ARTHUR himself, whose legendary CAULDRON OF REBIRTH was said to be buried SOMEWHERE in this great nation of ours. Legend says how you came to it by a SPECIAL MAZE. The location of which--
(he takes a sip of tea)
Pearly King: Passed down through GENERATIONS and guarded by a sacred vow of SILENCE.
(he starts singing while playing dominoes)
Pearly King: My old man... 'said follow the van... 'and don't dilly-dally on the way...

The 90s had a lot of missteps but the then-earnest belief in diversity and multiculturalism brought on by post-Cold War optimism was one of it better fruits

Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

If not Robin, he should adopt a dog. Put Ace the Bat-Hound in there. we need a whole wave of superhero dog movies
