I keep checking in with him about it. It's a really cool idea!

If you walk off a boardwalk and are injured/bitten/whatever, EMS shouldn't respond.

As for helping... I'm a bio teacher, so bringing to light MD-specific invasives and trying to encourage my students to care about this sort of thing is my contribution. One of last year's students is doing a science fair project, trying to design a drone that IDs invasives and marks them. #ParkChat

A11 #ParkChat I'm not sure. I think it's more that there are visitors that make experiences awful for others that should be discontinued. Such as visitors damaging and vandalizing things (especially on purpose), stealing things, making a ruckus at night in campgrounds and the like.

Okay, not really. The Crosstrek was brand new and the young calves and red dogs were running amok. We were scared one of the bison -- young or old -- would end up hitting the car.

This was the trip that Beefy joined us though. So, there's that. #ParkChat

A10 #ParkChat If you do research before going to a park where there are packs of animals, you can plan ahead. The first roadtrip with @patred.bsky.social in 2019, we were surrounded by bison at Theodore Roosevelt NP. It was heaven.

Q11 #parkchat Expectations for the visitor experience in Yellowstone have changed dramatically through the years. No more bear feeding stations, angling from Fishing Cone, or soaping geysers to make them erupt. Are there current parkland visitor experiences that you feel should be discontinued?

Q10 #parkchat Yellowstone’s bison are as iconic to the park as Old Faithful. So is getting “stuck in a bison jam” during your visit. Our longest jam was over 3 hours! Do you have a bison jam story you’d be willing to share? Any advice for how to deal with an animal jam of any kind?

A9 #ParkChat Most of the restoration in this area is via removal of invasive kudzu and English ivy (as well as preventive measures for emerald ash borer and other super destructive pests).

A8 #ParkChat Two and half years ago, an arsonist started a fire at Soldiers Delight Natural Environmental Area in Maryland. Fortunately, it was just at the beginning of the spring season. The grassland was able to rebound. More importantly, the asshole was identified and held responsible.
April 16, 2023, just one week after the arson fires that destroyed much of the oak savannah grasslands at Soldiers Delight NEA A year later, March 31, 2024.

Q9 #parkchat Wolves were restored to the Yellowstone ecosystem in 1995-96, amid much controversy. What sort of restoration initiatives have been undertaken in the parklands you’ve visited. How were they received? Have you helped, or would you help, with a restoration project?

Q8 #parkchat Forest fires swept across Yellowstone in 1988. Post-fire research reinforced the important role of fire in ecosystem health. On my visit to YNP 1 yr later I was astonished by the incredible views that had been opened up. Share your parkland “before & after fire” observation/experience.

Me putting on car girl and chemistry hats: Antifreeze apparently tastes sweet and sugary to many mammals due to the ethylene glycol (a primary component of most green colored antifreeze. However, the ethylene glycol is highly toxic; kidney failure and brain damage are the main symptoms.

A7 #ParkChat I don't usually watch park webcams, because it just makes me sad I'm not there. My husband likes to watch Katmai (especially during the time leading up to Fat Bear Week). There is an account that posts webcam photos on BlueSky: @nps-cambot.bsky.social

A6 #ParkChat I haven't really hiked in Yellowstone because the two times I've been there, I've been by myself. Yellowstone's one of those places I'd rather not hike alone, especially on the kinds of trails I like to hike (the less crowded ones).
