Here is a word cloud of the words that were missing from the noncompetitive renewal awards but had been present in the parent award.

My ongoing request:

If your NSF or NIH grant was terminated--whether at Harvard or elsewhere--please report it here.

NSF: grant-watch.us/submit-nsf.h...

NIH: grant-watch.us/submit-nih.h...

Our trackers are actively used in lawsuits and are often the only record that terminations ever occurred.
NSF appears to be terminating hundreds of its grants to Harvard, per internal sources at NSF and at Harvard. At least one division has had all its grants cut.

I just emailed my state representatives to support Newsom's new budget for UC. If you agree that this economic and social engine for California needs robust state support, please join me.

This sobering interview is on a similar theme to our recent post about the importance of #OpenAccess for academic freedom and resistance to censorship:

The thing about scientific research is that it’s one of the few national investments that’s a clear public good even if you entirely discount the actual ostensible point of it.
New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024.

That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved.

Show me a better investment than that.

Thank you for this! I would urge all authors to submit their author's final version of all articles to their institutional repository, a subject repository, and or zenodo.org I've been an academic librarian in this space for a longtime, and am happy to help anyone--DM me!

We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country.

This Friday, where will you be?
