The most impressive slime veil of any mushroom that I am familiar with in California. Why invest so much energy in a slimy cap? Could be the ability to trap arthropods attempting to eat the gills or just a way to deal with rain.

We are heartbroken to hear that foragers were detained while trying to get legal permits.

Many seasonal foragers are immigrants doing hard, low-pay work that supports local ecosystems and local economies.

No one should face arrest for trying to gather food or earn a living. #Mushrooms 🧵
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detained at least 15 people in Lane County on Wednesday, according to local advocates.

Among those, five people were arrested while trying to get foraging permits at the Bureau of Land Management office in Springfield.
