It’s fine, it’s edible even. I’ve never eaten one because they look cool and I prefer to leave them intact. But this one is harmless, just very large.

A large mushroom next to my legs in hiking boots. The mushroom reaches to halfway up my shins. Its cap is the size of a dinner plate.

Would you believe this spindly guy is an assassin bug? I picked him up initially thinking he was a phasmid…then I got a closer look at the face and saw the rostrum, and the raptorial forelimbs started to make sense! He's a member of emesinae, a reduviid subfamily I didn't know about before!

Doesn’t quite look like a slime mold to me, did you touch it by any chance? That usually helps to tell slimes from fungi.
I think this might be something like Dacrymyces stillatus. I see them on trees in the Netherlands and they can be very bright orange.

Yeah tbh the name would keep me from using it. It sounds rude and kinda embarrassing, you wouldn’t want to tell other people you’re on it.
