PAPERBACK GIVEAWAY!

I have an extra copy of my latest to give away. The illustrations came out really nice if I do say so myself!

Because of all the weird tariff and shipping stuff, I'll have to limit this to US only but drop a comment if you're interested and I'll pick a winner Oct. 15th

It's here!

Roadkill is out in the world. I can't in good conscience recommend it to all readers. A sad and angry book. 90% of the animal characters are dead at the outset & the humans don't fare much better. But if you're in the mood for an unconventional eco-horror experience, links in comments!
Book cover for Roadkill by Helen Whistberry showing a bird, raccoon, and snake skeleton sprawled across a dark asphalt highway with yellow dotted line. The title is in large yellow letters that have blood streaming down them and out onto the road and animals. There is a dark and stormy sky in the background. Black and white illustration of the head and neck of a howling wolf in profile. Its mouth is wide open and a dark liquid is trickling from its mouth, snout, and eye.

"Octocentrism" 🐙🪐

I had a "what if," idea and decided to run with it. What if there was an Octopus at the center of our solar system and he was the sun, manipulating all 8 planets within his 8 arms?

#gouache #art #octopus
Gouache painting depicting an Octopus in space holding 8 planets. The Octopus is the sun and is at the center of our solar system. There is a gold ring behind his head and a white egret below him.

Tonight's movie: The Legend of Hell House (1973), haunted mansion horror. Had a very The Exorcist vibe (which I believe came out the same year), but like they were afraid to push it that far. I enjoy watching Roddy McDowall, a unique actor, but the ending was a fizzle of a reveal. Still interesting

Aesop's The Fox and the Crow (better known in France through Jean de la Fontaine's verse retelling). Ink on Saunders Waterford hot pressed, 165 × 250 mm. From December 2019.

#ArtAdventCalendar
Silhouette illustration in black ink. Against a snowy, forested landscape, on a snow-covered, raised bank by a thin trickle of a stream, a fox sits beneath a bare tree, looking up at and speaking to a crow perched on a branch. The Crow carries a piece of cheese in its beak.

I'm looking for new Pillowfort mutuals. If you're on there (and you should be! They allow NSFW of all kinds and are super queer-inclusive and independently run. You can say what you want without fear of an algorithm punishing you, cuz there isn't one).

haunted memories
a #cascade of emotions
too hard to hold

my heart out to sea

I don't normally do this, but I've been burning the candle at both ends.

Other half had a major op earlier this year and now I'm in hospital for an investigation.

Regardless of what's wrong, I need rest, but I've had little work this year.

I'd appreciate if anyone is able to help out.

Happy #Invertober Day 10!

Common earthworm (lumbricus terrestris)

Went for a different style as I wasn't sure how to make an earthworm aesthetically pleasing 😅

#Invertober2025
Black and white drawing of an earthworm in an S-shape on its side. The words would you still love me follow the curve on the left and the words if I was a worm follow the curve on the right. The background is an elaborate symmetrical doodle of teardrop shapes of varying sizes.

Matt has a lot going on, and I'm sure would appreciate some book sales. I can personally recommend the bronze carriage story as a terrific Gothic ghost story that would not be out of place in any classic collection of eerie tales told by the fireside.

Sseeing as you all desperately want it to be autumn right now, I suppose it's acceptable to start promoting these 😂

She removed her hat and her hair unwound in a shining black #cascade.
Out of it fell two spiders, three stag beetles, and a bat.
"Sorry, my dears," she crooned. "I forgot you were napping. Will you ever forgive me?"
She pinned up her hair for her lodgers and went to make a cup of tea.

I wonder if I should offer this design for pre-order? Would you get one?

Hen and Wren.
Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, approximately 95 × 64 mm.
Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of a hen and a Wren regarding each other quizzically. The hen stands in a patch of wild grasses whilst the wren perches on a small, leafless shrub in front of her. The hen's comb and wattle are the only touch of red gouache. The drawing is finely wrought and intricate. The piece is roughly the size of a business card.
