This large kiddo was walking in the field with his Mom I think. He was bigger than both his parents and his feather development was very advanced. Most migrating juniors don't have their red skin patch on their forehead, but his was developing already. A very mature juvie.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Did you know that along with New Caledonian crows, they are among the few crow species that naturally use tools without training/social learning?

Coming together to eat the food we share has been part of humanity from the very beginning. I wrote this post after a Thanksgiving week lecture on evidence for Neanderthals and other ancient people making prepared mixtures of grains, lentils, and other foods.

Starting on some new art for work, and while I'll hold off on showing the finished illustration until I get the go-ahead (likely not for a few months here), I think it might be fun to share the thumbnails that didn't get picked! Nosa' luta with various other Rota plant species. 🎨🪶

My latest for @instbirdpop.bsky.social ! This was our 2024 winter card illustration - a break from the snow, since the end of the year comes to the tropics too! Featuring a nosa' luta (Zosterops rotensis) chowing down on a caterpillar plucked off a trongkon guåfi (Serianthes nelsonii) 🎨🪶🐡🌏 #birdart

I’m begging novel writers to hire an artist for their covers. At least someone who can do graphic design at a minimum. I see the worst book covers on here everyday and you’re all doing such a disservice to yourself to put in the effort to write a whole book only to turn people away with a bad cover.
