"*I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine"

(it reminds me of Minecraft or Roblox or Web 1.0 or early PC BASICs, how you need to have stuff around you that is unpolished and feels achievable to copy)
last week i remembered that macOS lets you set your own icons and that *I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine, so here's a thread of the 16 new icons i've made so far

i really forgot how fun it was to just sit down and make art for myself :')

User researchers already document findings at a faster velocity than orgs can act on them. It strains credulity that tech leaders are clamoring for even more yet worse AI-generated findings.

When youmightnotneedjquery.com launched, some felt it was early, but most agreed on the goal. Even the team shared that ethic: make our library obsolete by influencing standards. It worked. With React it is different: many devs understand it to *be* a standard. A social problem, not a technical one

it is deeply annoying to have worked so hard to understand complex systems and learn so many ways to navigate complexity

and the punchline of everything is: once you map things out you realize you were underestimating the stupidity by an order of magnitude

Unreasonably excited to present THEORY IS SHAPES at alt.vis this November! Read on to find out what the "BLT Sandwich Theory of Visualization Consumption" (and other shape-based shenanigans) can teach us about theorycrafting in research 🥪🧲🧊♾️
to appear at #alt.vis 2025: THEORY IS SHAPES

sure "theory figures" are great, but @matthew.wiki, @maryamhed.bsky.social, me, and Carolina Nobre wonder: why always a 2D plane or a flowchart? why not icebergs, horseshoes, Möbius strips, or BLT sandwiches?
