i'm not super familiar with what kinds of systems there are for input validation, but it sounds like without authentication there's no real way i can prevent people from writing whatever they want while letting the game send what it should

yeah, thankfully it's not for anything crucial or game breaking so authentication doesn't matter a whole lot, it's just for things that just make the game more interesting

it'd be ideal if clients could just modify a few values! for the use case i'm thinking of it'd just be incrementing a counter and updating a timestamp

like i can't see it ever getting bigger than < 100 KB, reading from it once when the game starts and occasionally writing to it in likely no more than a couple times per session if at all

part of me wants to just do something janky where i just do regular multiplayer with photon fusion, connect 2 people who are playing at the same time, share some data between them and then disconnect, but also i have an idea for something that requires reading/writing to a single global value
