The 50 wealthiest families own more wealth than the bottom 50% of the population.

How can this Labour Government say this is a "cost of living" budget and refuse to tax the rich?

They care about protecting power and wealth. And cost of living is a buzz phrase for them. Dire.

No certainly not

The exceptionalists only look at Europe as a means to an end, nothing more

Just like Brexiters the idea co of a community of nations is anathema to them

The idea here is that we could try to bully the likes of Estonia or Slovenia into supporting our demands….it won’t happen

This is an unusual and thought-provoking analysis of the US economy (both the figures and the psychological response) that may well apply more widely. Definitely worth reading.
This is a fabulous read. The figures might be specific to the USA, but the principle applies wherever neocapitalism has been applied. Read it, and feel it in your bones.

Rachel Reeves says there’s a “hole” in the public finances.

A new decade-long Brexit study explains it:

a 6–8% hit to GDP – that's £180bn-£240bn a year – means less tax, less investment and less money for everything else.

Brexit made Britain poorer. Much poorer.
New: Boris Johnson’s ‘Brexit Titanic success’ was half right
Nearly ten years on, the first full assessment of Brexit confirms what millions warned: Britain made itself poorer

A CU doesn’t address things like quality and safety requirements. Those are usually handled in an FTA or an SPS agreement. Negotiations on an SPS agreement are about to start, but are likely to take time as such agreements are long and very detailed.

A third country is the EU term for countries that are not EU MS or entitled to EU freedom of movement. (The last bit is to include EFTA countries.) So most countries are 'third countries' to the EU. The term has been used a lot more since Brexit, to describe the change in the UK's status.

Well, Blair invented New Labour and Starmer invented Reform Labour. Both could have similar meanings grammatically but in practice they are very very different. Labour are so intent on gathering the Reform voter that they’re alienating their own and not getting any Reform voter. 🤯

I don't agree with either the exceptionalism of Andrew's insisting that Europe breaks up Schengen into individual state visa waivers just for him.
