Family Member: …it’s a balmy 65 down here today, are you regretting the move to Minneso-

Me: Cold is but a state of mind. Hot is an oppressive force unequaled by anything else man or nature could conjure. Your weakness in the face of adversity is not mine.

RTs appreciated.

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

A never-ending problem with science communication and the spread of misinformation is the dedication some people have to intentionally missing the forest for the trees in order to feel special and smart, without considering that 1. They’re playing into the hands of bad anti-science actors and…
People were arguing in my mentions today about whether the Earth is "round" when it's technically an irregular oblate spheroid and look "round" doesn't mean "absolutely perfect sphere" it means round. A soccer ball is round, a cantaloupe is round, a fluffy borb in winter is round, just go with it.

A Trump supporter started murdering his way through an assassination list of Democratic law makers FIVE MONTHS AGO. He murdered my colleague Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark — and attempted to assassinate my dear friend John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. I was also on the hit list. WTF

No. The chief problem is, AI is literally A TOOL FOR UNLEARNING. The more you use it, the worse you get at whatever it is you’re using it for. It’s the opposite of educating, it’s uneducating. 2/2

Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.
