If you are unaware, my complex is in receivership for negligence and possibly fraud. The court only stopped payments for a month but the there was like, zero communication regarding October rent and utilities. We lost access to the old portal and they weren't giving receipts which is illegal.

Trump's denigration of women is part of the authoritarian playbook.

I mean I have been enraged about this topic for a while, but I had also never actually figured out how they calculate the poverty line.

I am legitimately speechless.
We have a “poverty trap” and it’s driving the destruction of social cohesion.

The “poverty line” is’t 35,000, it’s $150,000, and making more than one, and less than the other is worse than being “poor”.

Which is why the rage.

At the risk of people side eyeing why I know this, the US national security/war on terror apparatus actually relies pretty heavily on people doing Middle East studies so they can hire those graduates as spies, so this is ironically a stick in bike spokes moment again

"This Iranian national was detained for standard questioning," the statement said. If randomly being yanked off a flight and detained for multiple days is now the standard treatment academics with Middle Eastern heritage can expect, that bodes poorly for Middle Eastern studies as a field here.

Because that is just what OU is.
Individual faculty are wonderful but the system is…awful.

I miss when the Internet actually worked
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea
