The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.

US manufacturers who asked the incoming Trump administration for a “regulatory reset” have seen roughly 80% of their specific requests acted on in just the first eight months of Trump taking office. The industry asks included loosening air pollution regulations and pausing rulemaking around PFAS.

Why is the President of the United States trying to communicate with the Attorney General about government business via direct messages on the social media site he owns?

And is a direct message on a privately owned social media site kind of like a private email server?

WSJ is reporting that the Truth Social post where Trump told Pam Bondi to prosecute Comey *really was supposed to be a private message*

Taking Trump’s loyalty oath would be a profound betrayal of students, staff, faculty, the public, higher education, & our shared democracy. We urge schools not to capitulate & not to negotiate but to unite now in defense of democracy and higher ed.

I really want everyone to understand - The REPUBLICAN APPROPRIATORS are like - We were never going to have a deal because RUSS VOUGHT IS JUST DOING WHATEVER THE FUCK HE WANTS.

This is not what the OMB is for and is absolutely a constitutional crisis.
bbkogan.bsky.social
Imagine under a Bernie Sanders admin, Congressional Rs and Ds agreed to give a 5% increase to DOD in exchange for big boosts to housing and nutrition.

And then Bernie decided to just illegally ignore it and actually cut defense 10%.

That’s what Trump is doing. How can you make a deal under that?
bbkogan.bsky.social
Two senior Republican appropriators agree it doesn't make any sense for Democrats to agree to a government funding deal unless Trump actually adheres to the deal.

The Democratic alternative CR had language that would address this, but the White House came out strongly against.

The government of the United States, which is controlled by Donald Trump in the presidency, Republicans in the Senate, and Republicans in the House, will shut down in a few hours.

It is the first shutdown since the last time Trump was president and he shut down the government.

An excellent true thing is that I gave unequivocally anti-“AI” talks at Wesleyan and Tufts this month where the computer scientists and engineers in attendance have no interest in allowing this industry to hijack education and asked me “how can we get our students to take your classes?”
paulecohen.bsky.social
I will start teaching my students how to use AI when my colleagues in computer science start to teach Homer, Dante, Langston Hughes, Borges, Foucault, Audre Lord, Spivak, and Donna Haraway in their classes
disabilitystor1.bsky.social
I realize many people don’t quite get that not every single professor in every single university teaches computer science and might actually be trained in and invested in teaching other things, like let’s say, history? Or poetry.
Or sociology.
It is not our job to teach students how to use AI.
