Welcome. To #ClimateAdvent.
Let's go on a journey through all of #climateScience.
We'll cover natural variability/why we know it's not that, but us/inequalities surrounding #climateChange /what to do about all of it.

You'll find all days below.

If you have any questions, ask.

#ClimateSky
Day 7 of #ClimateAdvent reposts.

A quick note on how we actually measure stuff and how we get from the measured value to something actually useful.
Day 7 of #ClimateAdvent

Now that we've discovered that it's us humans who are to blame for the current climatic changes, let's have a better look at these changes, shall we? We'll look at a few of the impacts we see right now and then later on have a quick peak into the future.

Day 6 of #ClimateAdvent reposts.

How can we tell natural variability isn't to blame for current climate change?

2025 update: sadly @methanesat.bsky.social broke down earlier this year, but still was able to get some incredible precise methane tracking done until then and has open data access ❤️
Day 6 of #ClimateAdvent.

The last few days we've looked at a few natural factors that have an impact on the climate.

And if we know that there are natural factors, then it is logical to ask, whether one of these may be to blame for the current changes.

So today let's look at how we know it's us!

Day 5 of #ClimateAdvent reposts

additional current "fun" facts below.
Day 5 of #ClimateAdvent

So now for the last part of natural variability, let's look at a few of these year-to-year variabilities, that happen (more or less) regularly.

As an example we will look at Volcanoes and ENSO today.

Are you a climate scientist or climate communicator?

Do you have opinions on "hope" in a climate context?

Then please drop me a message, I wanna hear from you!

Day 4 of #ClimateAdvent repost :)
Day 4 of #ClimateAdvent

Yesterday we had some fun with molecular physics, so today we go to the other extreme and look at orbital motions.

Our model planet is getting pretty close to the original world :) for this one, we'll add in the land and oceans and the ice at the poles, and we tip our axis.
December 4, 2025 at 12:20 PM
Day 3 of #ClimateAdvent reposts.

Explaining the greenhouse effect on a molecular level in a text based app is still hard. :)
Day 3 of #ClimateAdvent
Our model earth gets an atmosphere today.
Our model earth is a sphere that absorbs all energy from the sun.
All we needed to know yesterday was that there's a global average temperature on it.
Wanna know what that is?
Roughly -15°C (5°F)
So why don't we all freeze to death?🧵

Hi! I'm Chaos. And I'm running a climate science Advent calendar (again).

The 25th day is all about "hope" and I would love to get a few comments from people in the climate science/activism space.

Maybe @katharinehayhoe.com, @climateadam.bsky.social, @rahmstorf.bsky.social, @edhawkins.org, et al?

Welcome to Day 2 of #ClimateAdvent repost :)

Let's have a look at natural variability, and the big bright ball in the sky :)
Day 2 of #ClimateAdvent

Today we start at the beginning. From a physics pov.

For now we'll ignore humans, we'll even ignore the atmosphere and just have a look at an earth sized sphere that perfectly absorbs all of the energy from the sun and emits it again perfectly. 🧵

Hello!

I'm lazy this year, so instead of doing something new, welcome to #ClimateAdvent reposts.

Day 1 ☺️

Same rules apply: if you have honest questions, ask them, but if it becomes apparent that you're just trolling you'll be blocked ❤️

Welcome. To #ClimateAdvent.
Over the next 25 days, we'll be on a journey through all of #ClimateScience.
We'll cover the natural variability and why we know it's not that, but us causing this current change. We'll dive into the inequalities surrounding #ClimateChange and what to do about all of it.🧵

Okay. What's the worst part about reading?

Exactly! Having nowhere to track all of the stuff you read in one place.

Why be boring and only track #books, if you could also have a place to track all your #fanfics. Or all your #science research?

Hey.
I'm working on a fun little reading tracker.

And I need help!

Anyone here on Goodreads that reads audiobooks and printed/eBooks?

There are a little over 15 million fics on AO3, the longest one is a bit over 9.8million words long and on average a fic is 8643 words.

And if you want to track your fics and also know how many books that would be, I might be working on something for you 🤫

It's international pronouns day 🎉

I'm using @pronouns.diy on here. It lets you set as many pronouns as you like and then displays them right alongside your name :)

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR MY WORD COUNT TRACKER!

THERE HAS BEEN A MAJOR BUG DISCOVERED!

So, in the current version, when you write in a project for more than 18 days, further tracking will only return negative word counts.

The updated version is now online, so please redownload it.

#WIPWednesday

this one is for the #readers!

What's the biggest problem you as a reader have?

Exactly! simultaneously tracking you printed and audiobooks, fanfics and scientific papers!

The second biggest problem is trying to figure out, how many audiobook minutes the 100k fanfic is :D (/j))

#ShamelessSelfPromoSaturday

I made a word count tracker! It's very easy to use, supports up to 8 different active projects and it can deal with daily, monthly or project word goals!

100% human-made, 0% AI!

It's also free!
