Fun fact: This is why students will just use AI to write something & not change anything to try to hide their cheating. For those who are willing to wholesale cheat like that, it's too difficult for them to cover their tracks because they were taught how to read wrong
This is new information for me, too. It's wild that the person who invented the most common reading education system in the US says point-blank that it doesn't matter if people don't actually read words, but just guess what they are. He says it's fine to see the word "pony" and read it as "horse."

I sometimes wonder if moving to Whole language for reading instruction was done on purpose to make the younger generations less able to read. Because how could educators, with advanced degrees in educating, actually believe reading is a natural skill humans gain like speech?
