As Jeff Bezos "grovels before the administration, he’s letting the darkness consume an institution he once proudly treasured — and as so many at The Post suspect, it’s hard to imagine at this point that it’s all by accident."
As The Washington Post cleaved off a third of its workforce, chief executive Will Lewis and owner Jeff Bezos were nowhere to be found—leaving the storied institution to profusely bleed while its top leaders hid from accountability.

A question nags at me, and maybe it's answered in a book about Jeffrey Epstein, or in news I missed: When all those young teenaged girls were abused, where were the parents? Did they simply fail to keep track of their kids? Were they absent? Who was supposed to keep the children safe?

Post alum and lifelong subscriber Ashley Parker:

"The least cynical explanation is that Bezos simply isn’t paying attention. ... Or maybe, as many of us who deeply love the Post fear, the decimation is the plan."

I think it's now the latter.

The second-richest person on the planet is laying off a third of the Washington Post newsroom in the most cowardly way possible — without explanation. Expect him to slowly strangle The Post and shut it down. One more oligarch killing important institutions. Fuck you, Jeff Bezos.

I used to marvel at how my grandparents' generation was born at the dawn of flight and lived to see men walk on the moon. I think something similar is happening with Boomers: We were born at the dawn of the computer age and are living to see artificial intelligence deceptively outsmart humankind.

CNN has been re-running the 2018 series "1968: The Year That Changed America." It's almost comforting to be reminded how fucked up things were. I was 10 or 11 and just beginning to figure out the world. Assassinations, Vietnam, riots, volatile politics, a trip to the moon. There was a lot to unpack.
