The fear of being made fun of bridges the political divide, no?

Really struck by how brilliant a protesting tactic this is not just in terms of optics, but as a form of both privacy protection and discouragement of violence.

It masks your face and has to give pause to anyone thinking about beating you up.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

What strikes me about this is how much more clearly incriminating chats with ChatGPT are going to be than Google searches in criminal investigations

the city of los angeles burned in january in part because of a man who couldn’t stop generating images of burning cities on ChatGPT, and then after he lit the fire he asked if the fire he started was his fault

This is making me like social media again.

This is like a tweet thread from back when social media was good.

This is absolutely wild. I’m on a cross country flight. We are being diverted midway through to Denver. The reason? Some dude is sitting in the exit row who didn’t pay the $155 fee and he refuses to move back to his seat.
kashhill.bsky.social
At the very least, I have made a new friend via this flight. Thank you!

Dan gave me the lowdown on exactly what happened. Dude was told multiple times the flight was going to be diverted and he would have to get off. Unbelievable.

Dude was filming it so maybe we’ll see it on TikTok at some point.

Which seat is he in? I will go introduce myself.

As a New York Times business reporter, I’m not keen on calling out on social media the brands involved in my personal consumer experiences. But I bet you could look at flight tracking data and figure it out.

Bluesky discourse on this is making up for it on some level

A guy in front of me lightly clapped but it wasn’t a plane wide thing. We are all morally outraged but it’s surprisingly calm on this plane. Maybe we are all just used to the world being an insane place

Gotta read the whole thread. 🙃

(Or is it Skread in Bluesky?)

Okay, getting close to taking off.

By the way, I have been in a middle seat this whole time. Should I get up and move to the now available exit row seat?

😂

Please point me to it if you catch it!
