The interim CDC director who will rubber stamp the ACIP recommendations on MMRV vaccine and COVID vaccine is neither a scientist nor a physician. He is a former silicon valley executive.
When was the last time you consulted a corporate executive for guidance on your health? 🤔...I'll wait.

Reaction's to ACIP's vote are coming in. The American Academy of Pediatrics says the meeting "promoted false claims and misguided information about vaccines as part of an unprecedented effort to limit access to routine childhood immunizations and sow fear and mistrust in vaccines."

For many years I have been posting little observations online. What you may not know is that for many years, artists have been illustrating them - for no reason other than they wanted to respond. Below is a thread of some of these beautiful drawings because they should be seen 🧵

I share your love for mitosis, have made a fair number of representations of my favorite cell and stage, late anaphase in budding yeast mitosis 🔬…here’s my favorite (steel, bronze, silver, and apatite gemstones)
A budding yeast cell in the late anaphase stage of mitosis, a cutaway sculpture in metal. The cell wall is 3D printed steel, the internal organelles are cast bronze, the mitotic spindle is sterling silver, and the chromosomes are apatite gemstones mounted, and silver. Held in my hand over a wooden table. Close-up of the spindle pole body crossing the nuclear membrane at the base of the mitotic spindle.

Hey everyone,
On a whim, I crafted four tiny clover-shaped paintings. These are adorably small, mildly spooky, and completely ready to hang. If they're popular, I'll definitely make more.
These four are up at Etsy - ShadowArtFinds.
Have a legendary weekend, my artsy friends.

Today's ACIP meeting is usually a time where experts come together to inform the future of vaccines. That is not what today will be. That is not what we can stand behind. The AAP will continue to recommend its own childhood vaccine schedule -- just as we have since the 1930s

Phasing out NIH’s HIV clinical guidelines is flat-out immoral and unethical.

These guidelines drive early diagnosis, ART initiation, and viral suppression—82% linked to care within 30 days, 69% virally suppressed by 6 months.

Removing them puts millions of lives at risk.

Fired CDC scientists respond: “Despite recent suggestions to the contrary, the public trust ACIP. 99 of every 100 children have received at least some vaccines by 2 years of age. This does not suggest the population is so distrustful it warrants dismantling the vaccine recommendation process.”

Brief 🧵

Hi, everyone. I know so many people have been affected by the funding cuts to science in horrific ways. Sanaria, the company I am consulting for, has produced unprecedented progress in a highly effective malaria vaccine and is in major financial jeopardy because of these cuts.

What an inspiring quote re future use of host-directed therapies to treat infections:

"ID physicians will ... participate in immunophenotyping, ... offer immunoengineered solutions..., and take full advantage of the immune system to effect a cure without ... excessive immunopathology."
