its occurring to me that I'm approaching a decade of doing pixel art and while I do think I've made a real journey of progress I also am really trying to fight the feeling that I should be a lot better by now
that's not even talkin about how i feel about my work with a pen, good golly

yeah the weapon damage spreads in Mega Man 2 are kinda silly, shoutout to Metal Blade being just kinda the objectively best weapon in 99% of that game

Ironically what ArcSys for Guilty Gear Xrd basically was the same thing as KOF14 where they opted to just clean up and use the models they'd make as the base for sprites but ArcSys's models just look way nicer than SNK's and SNK no longer had the pixelation to hide the flaws and wack anatomy

TBH I think they could have taken the route ArcSys did for BlazBlue where they traced 3D models just like KOF12 and 13, but instead of placing every single pixel by hand which is insane they did vector art that they could scale to any resolution cleanly.

i have very mixed feelings about the KOF12/13 sprites because in a vacuum they're gorgeous but also there's a very good reason why people don't do pixel art at 720p they had to gut so much from the games to make it happen and I wish that they had stuck to their guns with the Neo Geo res sprites
