I want everyone out there who looks down on faith in general to take a very close look at all of the faith leaders who are working tirelessly and putting themselves on the line to make the world better. Not all christians are evangelical, many actually take the new testament to heart.

Chanting, "we are the body of Christ! The body of Christ will be free!"

This crowd has swelled considerably. Few hundred here now.

Ok. So this backfired badly for the DOJ.

Perry says she doesn't mind the expectation that she give the president deference. But she wonders what to defer to — legal briefs or public statements.

Wells: "Take the president at his word, when it has been unfiltered by his attorney. Because of the president's words, what the president has done to Illinois is illegal and lawless."

The thing that gives me optimism is I know the judges of the NDIL do not live in the land of make believe.

Amongst other things, it suggests the US Marshalls aren’t up to the task.

Happy to see the Admirals and Generals are making the same point in their amicus brief.
Amicus brief filed by former admirals and generals noting that law enforcement requires different training than winning wars.

“ICE needs to go into Chicago because the Chicago police are incapable of protecting the city but ICE can’t protect themselves so the Chicago police must protect them”

I think something we have to do more of is talk about how kickass a lot of American cities are because right now some people think they’re run by Sharia Law nudists and most of us never thought to counter that argument because it’s stupid and doesn’t make any sense

this is a very very big story because of the apparently totally fake story ICE/DHS put out about what happened.

1.c. and 1.d., Ellis doesn't have a problem with.

DOJ is going to ask clients if it's any problem b/c the contempt risk might cause agents to hesitate with enforcement.

Plaintiffs' lawyer: "We would ask them to hesitate before shooting priests and journalists."

For heavens sakes… Scheduling a hearing on a TRO is not the same as a ruling.

Federal judge declines to block the invasion of Illinois by National Guard from Texas.
A screenshot of a New York Times news update. The headline reads: “Here’s the latest.” The article reports that a federal judge declined to block the deployment of National Guard troops to Illinois, despite Governor JB Pritzker calling it an “unconstitutional invasion.” The ruling allows deployment of 200 Texas Guard troops to Illinois. A similar effort to send troops to Portland, Oregon, was blocked. The piece describes legal battles in Illinois and Oregon to stop President Trump’s effort to send National Guard forces into cities, with accusations of chaos and insurrection. Governor Pritzker vowed to use all legal means to fight the administration, warning that the plan was meant to create chaos and consolidate Donald Trump’s power.

Judge Perry is extremely thoughtful. She is not one to let something slide.

Knowing the judges in the NDIL, I really doubt it changes the outcome.

I keep getting hung up on this. Some Texas kid making less than the Chicago minimum wage is going to spend three hours commuting every day so he can “protect” a bunch of perfectly safe bars where millionaires pay $22 for a beer.

so are the troops going to commute from the naval base every day because like

it is incredibly foolhardy to place all of your hope and faith in a single elected official in a single state. it's also foolhardy to completely abandon an official showing more fight than most at the first sign of weakness. this isn't *as bad* as it is going to get.

I feel like Pritzker simultaneously trying to fend off a national guard deployment and lying on behalf of the state troopers is quite illustrative of the situation he's in. you don't have to like it, and you can and should demand better, but at least try to find some perspective here

Continued video of feds gassing protestors and CPD alike. In the chaos one woman came to a CPD officer asking for help for a relative that she says feds just grabbed.

Officer response: "We just clocked in. We don't know what's going on."
