I’ve never had a yarn advent calendar so was a bit stumped for this week’s #ShowMeYourKnits. This baby cardi used up lots of mini quantities of Shetland wool though, so maybe it could count? 🧶

The theme for #SewAndTell this week is Everyday Heroes - here are the 6 @sewoveritlondon.bsky.social Ava skirts I have made (2 of them worn in the last 2 weeks!). Simple pattern, quick make, only uses 1m of fabric #garmentsewing

Another floofy jumper for #ShowMeYourKnits - this one’s from 10 years ago - this was a great free Rowan pattern where there were pleats at one side to create an asymmetric effect - Kidsilk Aran I think (sadly shrunk into oblivion) 🧶

Adorable ancient Egyptian blue faience hippos made by artisans some 4,000 years ago!

My photo collage shows four hippo statuettes made of Egytian blue faience, a ceramic material made of ground quartz. Their bright-blue shiny bodies are decorated in black with depictions of Nile river plants such as water weed and lotus flowers. This decoration depicts their marsh habitat as well as having various layers of symbolism associated with regeneration. For example lotus flowers open in the morning and close at night, symbolising rebirth. Blue faience hippos have been found in Middle Kingdom tombs of high ranking officials. It’s thought they were placed in the tombs to aid the rebirth of the deceased. Hippo top left - Walking hippo shown in profile facing right. Height 11.5 cm, Length 21 cm. Egyptian Museum, Cairo. This week’s #SewAndTell prompt is projects made from scraps - here are a few things I made during my unemployed stashbusting period
Tote bag made from green patterned wool fabric and silver lining left over from jacket, black wool left over from skirt A couple of grey wool zebra print tote bags, with silver lining again - wool fabric was panels interspersed with the moth patterned fabric I used to make my duffel coat Fabric pouch made of canvas with a 60’s print and random French wording and a navy zip (now a home for many zips) My first attempt at a quilt - pretty basic but a way of using up lots of squares of cotton left over from other projects

#SewAndTell is sewing horror stories. There are makes I’ve snipped into by accident, one I cut with the overlocker, but the worst is where I fall in love with a pattern that doesn’t work at all for me. Here’s an unfinished pinafore where the bodice is just too short and the gathers do not sit well!

Yet another #ShowMeYourKnits knitting horror story (I seem to have a lot of these!). This cardi in Kidsilk Haze has been attacked by moths (holes on the front and the right sleeve). I’m thinking I might knit some tiny patches, rather than try to darn it. Also, less heavy buttons needed!

Another knitting horror story for #ShowMeYourKnits - Fred Perry pattern released for a wool week promo but very odd pattern (no needle sizes, for a start). Obviously I guessed a size that I thought would work and ended up with a ginormous cardi!!
