(🧵) A key irony in what is now happening in Portland, Chicago, Los Angeles, Memphis, and D.C. is something I have not heard much discussed: in order to meet the high legal standard for deployment of federal troops, Trump must not only argue but establish by evidence that his agents are... incapable.

I’m mildly surprised that Republican voters and America Firsters have bought Scott Bessent’s bullshit that American taxpayers aren’t shipping billions to Argentina to bail out the massive personal investments of Bessent’s friends. I guess loyalty to these crooks takes precedent.

Trump's big, ugly budget megabill gave ICE more cops than the FBI, more jails than the federal Bureau of Prisons, and a larger budget than most countries' militaries. Once the bill is fully implemented, nowhere in America will be safe from Trump's secret police state.
