DM's. It really should go without saying that here on Bluesky DM's are unacceptable unless invited, solicited or at least one gets permission out in the public space from the account owner before sending a DM.

It's pushy and rude to just DM someone. Don't do it without prior permission.

The Jewel Box is an open star cluster visible as a faint smudge with the naked eye under dark skies. It is located 6,440 light years away towards the constellation Crux, The Southern Cross. The first person to recognise it as a cluster of individual stars was Nicolas Louis de Lacaille during his visit to Cape Town in 1752. The name of the cluster originates from John Herschel's later observations in the 1830's, also from Cape Town, and his resulting vivid description: "A most vivid and beautiful cluster, though neither a large nor a rich one, is yet an extremely brilliant and beautiful object when viewed through an instrument of sufficient aperture to show distinctly the very different colour of its constituent stars, which give it the effect of a superb piece of fancy jewellery" The bright orange star in the centre of the cluster is known as Kappa Crucis. It provides a striking contrast with the rest of the hot blue cluster members. Although the cluster is a mere 14 million years young this star has already reached the red giant phase of its life and will most likely explode in a brilliant supernova within the next few million years. The cluster has ben photographed by a wide array of professional telescopes, including ESO's VLT and La Silla observatories and the Hubble Space Telescope. Becoming a U.S. citizen takes years and involves immigrants acquiring a green card, extensive interviews, background checks, classes and a citizenship test. The naturalization ceremony is the final step to the process, where the oath of allegiance and a citizenship certificate are granted. Immigrants approved to be naturalized went to Faneuil Hall Thursday - known as the country's cradle of liberty - for that long-awaited moment to pledge allegiance to the United States. But instead, as they lined up, some were told by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials that they couldn't proceed due to their countries of origin.

NGC 3445 has one fan-like spiral arm that is dotted with star-forming regions. It is connected to its companion galaxy, seen nearly edge-on to the left, by a weak bridge.

The one spiral arm begins at about 9 o'clock and curves clockwise around the galaxy, completing a full circle. The arm is unusually thick, fanning out with many bright star clusters. To the left of the spiral is a smaller galaxy, seen almost edge-on. It appears as an elongated oval dotted with stars. The long axis of the oval is almost horizontal. Connecting the two galaxies is a faint bridge of gas and stars. A few smaller background galaxies dot the black background of space. The image has some detector noise which have not been removed.

It is tilted slightly, so that its disk forms an oval rather than a circle. The faint ends of spiral arms extend beyond the edge of the disk and appear to connect to its companion galaxy above it.
