Happy #IWD2025 💚. This year’s theme is #AccelerateAction. At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158 - roughly 5 generations from now - to reach full gender parity. It couldn’t be more urgent to break down the systemic barriers that women face, & to create a future safe for all 💪

Women have always been central to trade unions and the struggle for a more equal society from the Bryant and May matchgirls to the fight for recognition and equal pay.

📸 Prehnite from Edinburgh

The bubbly volcanic rocks of Arthur's Seat are the perfect home for new minerals to grow. Here globular aggregates of prehnite crystals have formed on calcite within a cavity in the dolerite of the Salisbury Crags.

#MineralMonday #ScottishGeology
Yellow crystalline spheres of prehnite, nestled in a linear cavity within a basalt rock. The surrounding rock is dark black and is present as a black rim around the top right and bottom left of the rock. This outer matrix grades into white, blocky calcite crystals which are lining the cavity. The prehnite has grown on the calcite, in a diagonal line across the specimen, top left to bottom right. The prehnite spheres are present as a mix of sizes and many have grown of other spheres. There is a 2cm scale bar to the right of the specimen, indicating that the largest prehnite mass is just over 1cm in diameter and the entire specimen is 7cm wide.
