Looking for a good summary of Governor Hochul's State of the State address from a progressive perspective?

Then read @citizenactionny.org's response, which covers how Hochul plans to under-deliver on child care, health care, housing, utilities/climate, and ICE.

We joined hundreds of activists outside of the Governor’s State of the State address in Albany on Tuesday, urging her to invest in renewable energy rather than promoting fossil fuels and nuclear power while turning her back on the state’s climate law.

While Hochul is up for re-election this year Citizen Action of New York is proud to support @delgadoforny.bsky.social for Governor because he is committed to putting working families first, tackling the affordability crisis head-on, and delivering the bold leadership this moment demands.
Families don’t need half-measures, pilot programs, or one-time relief. They need guaranteed care, real affordability, and a state government willing to stand up to corporate power and the ultra-wealthy.

Governor Hochul pays lip service to the affordability crisis in New York, but without bold structural solutions, her words fall flat.

We need real leadership and a plan to tax the rich to fund the needs of working families, not more empty platitudes.
Gov. Kathy Hochul released her 2026 State of the State agenda Tuesday. We've got a long list of what's in it, including items we didn't know about.

We know that clean, renewable wind and solar energy are now the cheapest sources of power.

But rather than embracing the transition to clean energy, Gov. Hochul is promoting expensive, slow to build and dangerous nuclear power and other false solutions including bio-fuels and renewable natural gas.
Woah: Hochul wants New York to build *5 GW* of nuclear power, up from 1 GW she announced last year. That’s more than has been built in the US in the past 30 years.

via @syracuse.com:
Hochul ratchets up NY’s nuclear plans, aims to lead U.S. in building new reactors
Last year, the governor called for 1 gigawatt of new nuclear capacity. Now she wants 5 GW.

The opening phone joke foreshadowed this #NYSOTS moment. The Governor lifts up early impacts of the bell-to-bell phone ban, but we're still out here waiting to hear what this year’s state budget will deliver for our public schools

Governor Hochul has acknowledged the need for childcare reform, but it MUST be universal.

That means protecting and caring for every child, family, and community, while paying providers a fair wage.
New: Gov. Hochul estimates NYC's 2-Care plan will serve 30,000 kids at full implementation — thousands of slots short of what advocates say is needed for Mayor Mamdani to fulfill his pledge of a truly universal program.

Mamdani agrees with the figure tho.

Hochul State of the State plan to deliver child care for NYC 2-year-olds may fall short of need
Advocates have estimated that 2-Care requires 55,000 slots citywide to be considered universal.

I gave @delgadoforny.bsky.social $250, the max matchable amount, in his primary campaign for governor. In order to—

✅ Tax the rich
✅ Create social housing
✅ Grant more clemencies
✅ Course-correct on climate
✅ Enact truly universal childcare, the NY Health Act, and NY for All

—Delgado must do well.
Hochul has given her answer, she’s only looking out for her wealthy donors.

“I’m not raising taxes on high net-worth people right now, because we cannot have them leave the state” — Kathy Hochul.

Will Albany Let Zohran Mamdani Tax the Rich?
With Democratic state legislators coming under pressure to support the mayor-elect’s proposal, the big question is whether Governor Kathy Hochul will resist the tide.

Earlier today, @governor.ny.gov spoke with Dan Mannarino at @pix11.bsky.social, where she said “taxing the rich is 'off the table' because she won’t 'tax the wealthy for the sake of raising taxes.’

But here's the truth: if we don't #taxtherich, people will die.
