[spoiler alert: Gov. Hochul has that power]
investinourny.bsky.social
This is really a damn shame. If only there was New York elected who had the power to raise new state public $$$ by taxing the rich so we could invest those clean energy projects and keep New Yorkers employed.

Do you know anyone with that kind of power, Governor Hochul?

Once again, New York Republicans are turning their backs on their neighbors to please Donald Trump.

1,000 jobs and $650 million are on the line.

They’d rather kiss the ring than protect their own state.

I was sent this by a Georgian this morning. 2025 premiums vs 2026 premiums for someone making $65k a year.

Republicans in Washington did this.

This is what I'm fighting to stop. This is what’s at stake in this shutdown fight.

@speakercarlheastie.bsky.social knows what's up.

The Federal Budget Scam serves the rich, and the rich alone.

New Yorkers are more than ready to #TaxTheRich.

It's time for them to pay their fair share.
A screeenshot of a twitter post from Politico reporter Jeff Coltin. There's a photo of Zohran Mamdani and NY Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie standing at a podium outside with news station microphones on the podium and a Zohran for New York City sign on the podium too. The tweet says:

Would you help Mamdani raise taxes on millionaires, pass free child care and free buses, Heastie is asked?
“All of the above,” Heastie said.
“Millionaire taxes poll extremely well,” he adds. “With the Big Disgusting Bill, the rich are getting richer with that bill.”

We're shocked –– shocked we tell you! –– that @nyscomptroller.bsky.social found that the Federal Budget Scam hurts working-class New Yorkers while benefiting the ridiculously rich.

Anyone else think it's time for a special session to #TaxTheRich?
Earlier today, State Comptroller DiNapoli released a report analyzing the impact that the Federal Budget Scam’s tax cut extensions will have on New Yorkers. This report comes on the heels of an analysis by the Fiscal Policy Institute that confirms New York’s growing economic inequality. Below is a statement from Erica Vladimer, communications coordinator for the Invest in Our New York Campaign, in response to the Comptroller’s report:

“The analysis from Comptroller DiNapoli confirms what we already knew: The federal budget scam will move billions of dollars into the pockets of the richest New Yorkers, including the 130 billionaires who call New York home, while hurting working-class people in our state.

"Congressional Republicans passed a budget that cut our safety net programs and increased burdens on working-class people, all to pay for tax breaks for the rich. It is not enough for state lawmakers to criticize the federal government; they must also take action to protect New Yorkers. “Governor Hochul, Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Speaker Heastie must convene a special session, make the super wealthy and highly profitable corporations pay their fair share, and invest those new public dollars in keeping our healthcare whole and making New York affordable for everyone.

“As Comptroller DiNapoli’s report makes clear, the federal budget scam ‘further skews tax benefits to individuals and businesses at higher income’ and will ‘put a heavier burden on working-class New Yorkers trying to make ends meet.’ New York’s millionaires and billionaires can afford to pay what they owe in taxes.”

Welp, @governor.ny.gov is on board with Trump & Congressional Republicans' efforts to make NY sicker. @axios.com reported this morning that Hochul is scrapping expanded healthcare b/c of the Federal Budget Scam. www.axios.com/2025/09/10/n...

Our response (spoiler, she should #TaxTheRich instead)👇
Earlier this morning, Axios reported that Gov. Hochul plans to axe New Yorkers’ healthcare as a result of July’s Federal Budget Scam. Below is a response from Erica Vladimer, Communications Coordinator for the Invest In Our New York Campaign:

“New York’s Congressional Republican delegation happily voted to make New Yorkers sicker by cutting billions from our healthcare, forcing state leaders to step in and deal with the aftermath. Unfortunately, Governor Hochul’s claim to stand up for New York’s families falls short as she chooses to axe their healthcare. Instead, Governor Hochul can raise the necessary public dollars to protect healthcare access by raising taxes on New York’s millionaires and billionaires. Anything less is just going along with Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans.”

@governor.ny.gov could join us in calling for a #SpecialSessionNow to protect NYers from the MAGA budget. Instead, she's cutting off access to healthcare for 450,000 NYers. NYS has the resources to meet NYers' needs -- we just need leaders who are willing to fight for us!

Other states are gaining millionaires faster than New York, a new report finds, linking it to our high taxes. But is there any hard data to suggest the ultra-rich would leave quicker if a Mayor Mamdani convinced the state legislature to make them pay more?

Can you count the number of at-risk hospitals in NY?

State leaders need to do some thing- NOW. If there were ever a time to #TaxTheRich, this is it. Our hospitals, and New Yorkers’ lives, depend on it.

Yup. Trump's tax cuts for the rich gutted services New Yorkers need.

By refusing to raise NY State taxes on the rich, even just to a level that would zero out the cuts they got from Trump, Kathy Hochul is telling us she supports Trump's policy.

💁‍♀️actually. There are VERY clear things Gov Hochul & state leadership can do in the short term

Convene a special session to make the obscenely rich pay their fair share and protect our communities from the federal budget scam.

Don’t be fooled: redistricting isn’t the only option.
There are “no clear options” for what New York can do ahead of the midterm elections, said the person, who was granted anonymity to relay the closed-door discussion.

New York Democrats, though, agree they will do something — likely a constitutional amendment — to alter how the state draws House lines. That amendment, however, can’t be in place until 2027, assuming voters give their approval.

At times, Hochul has signaled she wants to be aggressive with redistricting, tweeting “Game on” after Texas state lawmakers approved new House lines.

But she is also realistic about what New York can actually do in the short term.
