what would be really cool is a transport/logistics citybuilder game like Transport Fever or Workers and Resources, just fantasy. Shipping your iridium ingots across a cursed swamp. That kinda thing.

hi Andrew, thanks for the panel just now! At one point you mentioned a weird fantasy crime anthology but I didn't catch the author's name - can you remind me?

I am shocked, shocked to hear that a man born in the 1890s who worked in the 1920s-1950s drew on some racial stereotypes in his work that one wouldn't today.

having zoomed out to the Big Picture Plot now I need to work out what's happening with the actual murder mystery that kicks this book off

is reading The Tainted Cup which is one of those books that is great fun, as well as both inspiring and intimidating... what I have to be THIS creative if I want my writing to succeed?? challenge accepted!

I'm writing a prologue! though tbh it's probably 'writing in' - writing the prologue will help even if it doesn't end up in the actual book

new wip progress: I'm loving the prose I'm writing and big picture I'm happy with the plot concept but I'm not happy with my MC's stakes or tension

result... frustration and tearing my hair out

so... who's done a fantasy police procedural? Think Cadfael (if you're that old, lol) but a secondary-world fantasy setting, not medieval!

what should I be reading

it's Sunday! Time for more writing!

yesterday I started rewriting something in first person present, now I continue the experiment
September 21, 2025 at 8:22 AM
so... question.... over on Twitter I've managed to get it so I have a feed that is mainly writers talking about writing, even when the rest of the world is a disaster area. Is there a way to do that on Bluesky?
September 20, 2025 at 9:40 AM
I had a great idea to improve my synopsis but now I've got the damned thing open I can't remember what it was.

If you know, let me know, I'll buy you a cookie.

how to talk about sex in historical settings? Getting feedback that 'fucking' and 'screwing' sound too modern. Though I don't want my Iron Age Britons saying 'intercourse' or 'make love'.

I use a lot of agricultural language so maybe 'rutting' and 'mounting'?
