"You’re Not Overthinking It" is available for pre-order right now. It collects the most meaningful essays of my career alongside hundreds of new annotations on each piece’s creation, background, and legacy. Far more details below: www.lostincult.co.uk/overthinking
Book: "You're not overthinking it," blue cover depicting an overgrown futuristic cityscape. Alongside it is a yellow slipcase with a patterned die-cut and an emboss of the same city.

truly the weirdest part of having made this show for X years is that there’s something like 10 people who have started / completed an advanced degree due in part to the show’s influence, which we partially started because of how fed up we were with academia

Look. I totally get the despair and frustration. But every couple of weeks someone else is asking "where's press coverage for indie games?" and like, have you been under a rock? It's been torn to pieces my dudes! The devastation of games media has been widely talked about!

Not really a postmortem, just putting some info about that up against other dev info to maybe give some insight into what they’re doing

Those games are generally light on context and heavy on mechanics and character (neither are full sized games, and Ubi talks about them and their scope very differently than the mainline games). I think they would attempt to focus and winnow Reconstruction in a similar way and it would be a bad move

AS I WRITE IN MY BOOK (I gotta promo) that’s a really interesting case where there were so many internal debates about it that it ended up muddled. I’d be more worried about the “view from a thousand feet” perspective on reconstruction

Two conflicting thoughts about this:
1. Damn.
2. I think even with the best team and the most consistent thoughtful approach, Ubisoft would have handled this is a very weird way that would have been off putting at best.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

New Side Story. The actual post on the website (linked) has very important visual information for a very tortured metaphor I was trying to make about Endless Legend 2's muddiness compared to the crispness of the first.
