carmack is such an incredibly stupid guy. i used to think he was a genius at one thing and dumb as rocks at everything else, but i now realise he was only ever a garden variety fuckwit with the luxury of spending immense amounts of time on his interests and the vacuousness to hold only one at a time

Sometimes i like to go on wayback and browse Planet Half-Life, a site that i checked every single day from when i was like 9 for years, so i know i have seen everyone of these posts. So much media from long-forgotten mods and sites. Even the ones that came out and got played are mostly lost now

stalker 2 just spent 20 minutes compiling shaders, then crashed so hard it uninstalled my display driver. i realise that sounds completely false and made up. literally device manager is like "yeah idk what the fuck that is". the amd software is like "no driver is installed for this".

this is my general beef with posting anything here lately. you post something where it’s like clear that you are an expert or at least generally know about a topic and many many many of the replies are like “did you know this very basic thing everyone knows about”
Everyone, please, I know of “enshittification”. Which is fine not to assume. But every single gotdamn time it’s 5000 of you and I’m so old and tired.

found an old dev vid from Weird West when I was experimenting with the aiming camera. there was a lot of experimentation trying to balance direct camera control, fine control of aiming, seeing what you were aiming at... here the camera would offset in your aim direction rounded to some "wedge" value
