i immediately had to go interview yorgos lanthimos and then he said something so meaningful to me that i had to fight to not burst into tears, this has been a wonderful but very emotional day

“hey, i heard you say you relate to the creature, well BAM relate HARDER 🫵” - guillermo del toro apparently.

i have much more to say but honestly i need to cry it out first, this movie tore to me pieces in ways i didnt even expect

The Greens requested an interview on the Laura Kuenssberg Show with Zack Polanski when he was elected leader, but were denied, with a promise to interview him during Green conference instead.

This was then scrapped citing the Manchester synagogue attack. Polanski is both Jewish and from Manchester

kicked off frankenstein autumn with a classic, the premiere of the new 4K restoration of THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN. (a) peter cushing’s eyes have never looked so blue and (b) i will be curious to see how this & the whale version interact in del toro’s film

a slam dunk performance from anthony boyle, but at what cost

#HouseOfGuinness, freshly dispatched on Netflix, is about as typical a (Peaky Blinders creator) Steven Knight project as you’ll find, says @clarisseloughrey.bsky.social: "It’s fun and it’s sloppy in equal measure."
House of Guinness blends sex and desire with Ireland’s most famous export
New show from Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight joins the current trend of bodice rippers soundtracked by contemporary music.

BUGONIA: gonna call this yorgos lanthimos’s prometheus for my own amusement. an immaculately balanced tragi-comedy, like tonal witchcraft

& look at how if you cast an autistic actor as your autistic character (aidan delbis), you get a moving & nuanced performance instead of some patronising farce

my piece on guillermo del toro’s FRANKENSTEIN is in the current issue of picturehouse recommends - hopefully the first of several!!
the cover of picturehouse recommends magazine - it features the poster for bugonia, in which emma stone’s face is projected on a blood-red stain that drips down to a hooded figure in a beekeeper suit an article on frankenstein

enjoyed season two of GEN V, but it’s interesting how indistinguishable it feels now from the things it’s supposedly satirising
flicks.bsky.social
As much as #TheBoys, and college-set spin-off #GenV, present themselves as the barbed alternative to modern comic book monotheism, they’ve been around long enough that we’ve (gasp!) started to care, says @clarisseloughrey.bsky.social - beyond what they can just serve to us as a punchline.
Gen V hasn’t lost its teeth but, like The Boys, is feeling less “anti-comic book”
The jokes here feel more accessory to the main plot than the main plot itself. But fear not – that doesn’t mean a total absence of dicks and sexual kinks.
