I'm welfare dependent. I'm 25 and was doing okay before the pandemic and in the early response phase, but I lost all my jobs after I came out. With the 5-year gap on my resume plus the "disability makes me too poor to manage my disability" effect I've accepted it will be the gutter for me
"Jobs don't exist anymore" is a phrase I've repeated to myself a lot. No idea what the hell most of you do all day but if someone is paying you to do it, hold on for dear life, because if it goes away it feels like it's probably not coming back. Either that or I'm just particularly unemployable.
“Stella why do you put up with x or y” what would you like me to do man. I was unemployed for 18 of the last 36 months. Jobs don’t exist anymore. We take what we can get now, warts and all.

It's worth noting this in the context of the "An assault on our ancient liberties" discourse around the plan to curtail jury trials. The UK justice system has always been anti-democratic and indulgent of the security state. Authoritarianism is built-in.

When I did jury service there was a woman on with me who adamantly insisted "Well they must've done something wrong because the police arrested them".
In a jury, that kind of thing gets mitigated by the other jurors. In a magistrates' court, that could be the one opinion that decides the case!
