I'm starting to see more and more 'representation isn't trendy anymore so we shouldn't include it' kind of arguments, and that both manages to miss the point of why people advocate for representation in the first place, as well as reveal a profoundly narrow and cynical worldview

Everything went well, and apart from needing a bit of extra food, he's doing alright (as am I and his dad too).

Adjacent to this, more people need to know that artists, authors, zine makers, etc, are all paying for their tables (and stock, hotels, travel, food) to vend at conventions. They aren't staff, they aren't earning an hourly wage to be there, they're paying to be there.
i didn't realize people didn't know, but as far as I'm aware, yes, hugos and nebulas finalists do still have to pay to attend the award ceremony

Using AI for concept art is like: “I want to come up with something no-one has ever seen before, so I’m going to use this machine that can only regurgitate existing stuff after blending it into a lumpy paste.”
The "using AI to generate concept art early in the process to quickly iterate ideas" thing is so absurd to me because like. You don't know what concept art is. You don't know what concept art *does*.
